I've listed this article for peer review because I'd like to nominate is as a Featured list
Thanks, Headhitter (talk) 13:58, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
Hi Headhitter, I have a couple comments.
- I've been checking out other "List of people..." featured lists and I notice that most of them I've seen have every person in tables. I suggest you do that here because the article seems a little messy as is – there's photos in between people.
- The lead should be longer, more engaging, and in general is far from featured status. See WP:LEAD or check out other "List of people..." featured lists for guidance.
- Featured lists don't begin with "This list of" just how featured articles don't begin with "This article is about".
- The list is pretty large; after doing some research on WP:Article size, the readable prose size is about 105k bytes while this list is currently at 124k. Perhaps consider splitting the article into sections, such as "list of people... A–F", "G–P", something like that.
That's what I got right now. Definitely far from featured status. Let me know of any comments or questions. BeatlesLedTV (talk) 05:06, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
That's useful feedback, BeatlesLedTV: thank you for commenting. I'll follow up all your suggestions in due course but I had wondered whether a useful way of reducing the size of the article would be to split it into two, separating out historical figures from living people. That would be easy to do. It woud also be useful to know which other "List of people..." particularly appeal to you. Headhitter (talk) 08:30, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Headhitter I've been checking out the "list of people..." featured lists and here's a couple I think you should check out as good references:
- List of Wilfrid Laurier University people
- List of University of Waterloo people
- List of people with hepatitis C
- List of De La Salle University people (this one has an overabundance of red links)
However, I found a couple featured "lists of people..." that do begin with "This list of". Here's a couple of them now:
- List of HIV-positive people
- List of people with epilepsy (doesn't have a long lead)
- List of Athabasca University people
I encourage you to check all of these out for guidance. There's also another featured list, List of people with brain tumors that's over 146k bytes and should probably be split in two but that's also a good reference. In terms of splitting, I think separating living and historical people would definitely be a good way to do it. Hope this helps! BeatlesLedTV (talk) 17:21, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks, BeatlesLedTV. Headhitter (talk) 18:11, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
- Headhitter Absolutely! And if you need any help just ask. BeatlesLedTV (talk) 18:15, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
- An alternative approach, BeatlesLedTV, might be to go down the route adopted for Lists of people from the London Borough of Camden. Headhitter (talk) 07:51, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
- Headhitter That could possibly work but at the same time that list isn't featured. None of the pages it goes to have tables as well so I probably wouldn't stick to that, at least if you want it to become featured at one point. BeatlesLedTV (talk) 15:26, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
- As you say, BeatlesLedTV, the article in its present form is "Definitely far from featured status". Perhaps seeking such status is an unrealistic goal given the limited time I have available and the fact that I seem to be the only editor at present putting any significant time into developing the article. My main concern is that the article has now become unwieldy and I'm keen to identify the simplest and most effective way of addressing that. I could perhaps then concentrate on one of the lists into which it has been split and seek to improve it. Headhitter (talk) 16:53, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
- Headhitter That would definitely work. If you want to split the list, I'd say focus on one at a time so you're not overwhelmed. Also, if you need my help creating tables I can definitely help out. Just ask if you have any comments or questions. BeatlesLedTV (talk) 17:52, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
- BeatlesLedTV, I've started splitting the list and taken your advice of doing one split at a time. I'll look at introducing table formatting – but probably for only a couple of the stand-alone lists – later. Thanks for your support in identifying a way forward. As I'm not now going to purse Featured list status, this discussion thread can presumably now be closed, but I'm not sure how to go about doing that. Headhitter (talk) 13:37, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
- Headhitter No problem. Go to WP:Peer review/guidelines for instructions on how to close it. If you need my help for anything, post to my talk page and I'll make sure to get back to you. Good luck with everything and happy editing! BeatlesLedTV (talk) 17:36, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
