Neelix
[edit]Neelix (talk) 18:46, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
- Why do you want to be a Wikipedia Ambassador?
- Two editors have suggested that I apply and I am strongly in support of the integration of Wikipedia and academia.
- In three sentences or less, summarize your involvement with Wikimedia projects.
- I am primarily involved with the English Wikipedia, being the 40th editor by article count and 110th by edit count. I translated the Carabane article from the French Wikipedia and helped promote it to featured status as the first featured article relating to Senegal. I have made more than 100,000 edits on Wikipedia, more than 90,000 of which are live edits to articles, and I have uploaded over 800 images and created more than 4000 articles.
- Please indicate a few articles to which you have made significant content contributions. (e.g. DYK, GA, FA, major revisions/expansions/copyedits).
- How have you been involved with welcoming and helping new users on Wikipedia?
- I have, but not extensively.
- What do you see as the most important ways we could welcome newcomers or help new users become active contributors?
- Encouragement, inspiration, and direction
- Have you had major conflicts with other editors? Blocks or bans? Involvement in arbitration? Feel free to offer context, if necessary.
- I was blocked for a few hours a while ago because an administrator believed that my account had been compromised. I had created a significant number of redirects to an article that dealt with profanity. The redirects were profanity themselves, which I believed to be appropriate considering that they were redirecting to an article about profanity. While I still believe that they were valid redirects, they were deleted. I was unblocked as soon as other editors realized that my account had not been compromised.
- How often do you edit Wikipedia and check in on ongoing discussions? Will you be available regularly for at least two hours per week, in your role as a mentor?
- I normally edit Wikipedia and check in on ongoing discussions every day, but exceptional circumstances outside of Wikipedia have arisen on occasion and I have occasionally been away for extended periods of time. I would be glad to spend two hours per week as a mentor, however I cannot make a commitment to two consecutive hours each week.
- What else should we know about you that is relevant to being a Wikipedia Ambassador?
- I am from Canada and can communicate in French at an intermediate level.
