  1. Why do you want to be a Wikipedia Ambassador?
I enjoy helping people to grow and facilitating this helps me and them feel alive.
  1. In three sentences or less, summarize your involvement with Wikimedia projects.
As an editor in Wikipedia and Simple English Wikipedia I have donated and continue to donate my time. I believe that free open access information makes the world a better place to live in and I therefore support the goals of the Foundation. I am registered through unified login on 18 sites, but my main focus is on knowledge management.
  1. Please indicate a few articles to which you have made significant content contributions. (e.g. DYK, GA, FA, major revisions/expansions/copyedits).
I work well at providing support and help for rescuing poor articles, I am better at this than copyediting as a dyslexic I play to my strengths and leave the beautification to others with more of a flair for it. However from the list I created these two articles of which the better is International Centre for Policy Studies (ICPS) and Genesis Housing Group which is in need of copyediting!
  1. How have you been involved with welcoming and helping new users on Wikipedia?
Yes, I have helped rescue articles and advise novice editors on how to cope with WikiVampires. Projecting calmness and slowing things down to take the heat out of them and channel the anger/energy frustration into constructive acts.
  1. What do you see as the most important ways we could welcome newcomers or help new users become active contributors?
Listening, presenting options and offering guidance on 'how to' once confidence, experience increase providing Q and A service as required, depending on the learning style of the individual adapting to meet the needs of the individual.

  1. Have you had major conflicts with other editors? Blocks or bans? Involvement in arbitration? Feel free to offer context, if necessary.
I have disagreed but no more than this, no blocks or bans. I have offered advice/solutions to problems others have wanted help with. Although having been a CAB manager I have been involved in mediation.

  1. How often do you edit Wikipedia and check in on ongoing discussions? Will you be available regularly for at least two hours per week, in your role as a mentor?
Recently on a daily basis. I will commit to at least every other day and to more than 2 hours a week.
  1. What else should we know about you that is relevant to being a Wikipedia Ambassador?
I am willing to engage and if you want to know more about me please ask User talk:MikeBeckett happy to help.
