Why do you want to be a Wikipedia Ambassador?
Editing Wikipedia is a hobby of mine; I love the project, I love using my knowledge to create and expand articles, and I think that I would enjoy helping others become more familiar with the project.
In three sentences or less, summarize your involvement with Wikimedia projects.
I spend most of my time editing the English Wikipedia, though I have made minor edits in a few other languages and dabbled in some uploads on Commons. On Wikipedia I am most active in the U2 articles.
Please indicate a few articles to which you have made significant content contributions. (e.g. DYK, GA, FA, major revisions/expansions/copyedits).
Most of my time is spent on the U2 articles, so most of my contributions are seen there. I brought two articles ("City of Blinding Lights" and No Line on the Horizon) to FA, and several others to GA, including U2 concert in Sarajevo, "Mothers of the Disappeared", and "Slug" (song). I also wrote several articles which became part of DYK.
How have you been involved with welcoming and helping new users on Wikipedia?
I have not had too much experience in aiding new users, though if I see one who is having trouble integrating themselves and their edits, I do sometimes try to aid them.
What do you see as the most important ways we could welcome newcomers or help new users become active contributors?
Point them towards a subject that they are interested in and let them edit; show them how much fun it can be to demonstrate your knowledge to others, and how there is always something more to learn.
Have you had major conflicts with other editors? Blocks or bans? Involvement in arbitration? Feel free to offer context, if necessary.
Like most editors I have been involved in a few conflicts in my time. Generally I try to help resolve the conflict, though sometimes I am one of the aggrieved parties. I received one block for edit warring with an IP over a year ago, which helped me to learn more about resolving editing disputes and conflicts.
How often do you edit Wikipedia and check in on ongoing discussions? Will you be available regularly for at least two hours per week, in your role as a mentor?
I usually edit several times a day, though this depends on whether I have an article on the go or am just trying to revert some vandalism I see on my watchlist. I should easily be available for at least two hours a week.
What else should we know about you that is relevant to being a Wikipedia Ambassador?
I've edited for almost five years and have made over 16,000 contributions. I have a lot of experience with various policies, guidelines, and practices, most of which is related to article building. I don't know if this is relevant or not, but one thing that I should note is that I will be away for about a week starting the 18th; so if I am accepted as an Ambassador, I hope that I will be able to start after I return (don't want to leave somebody hanging for that long!).
