1. Why do you want to be a Wikipedia Ambassador?

   Because I want to help people learn about Wikipedia and how to edit well.

2. In three sentences or less, summarize your involvement with Wikimedia projects.

   I am a WikiGnome. I mainly work on reverting vandalism, but I also occasionally throw my hat into the ring and handle abuse reports, reduce the {{Notability}} backlog, review articles, help people on IRC, answer {{help me}} requests, answer semi-protected edit requests... and sundry other things.

3. Please indicate a few articles to which you have made significant content contributions. (e.g. DYK, GA, FA, major revisions/expansions/copyedits).
   • I haven't ever really kept track of articles that I felt I've substantially contributed to.
   1. I recently redid the famous family tree of the famous Cleopatra. It originally used an Ahnentafel which I thought was quite confusing since her family tree is so small (many people were repeated in different spots).
   2. I created Cedar_Glen,_California_(weather)
   3. I created the userboxes at User:Banaticus/Userboxes
4. How have you been involved with welcoming and helping new users on Wikipedia?

   I invite them to ask any question that they might have. However (see the next response), this may not be very helpful. I've recently begun adopting people, although some might see it as more boring school work.

5. What do you see as the most important ways we could welcome newcomers or help new users become active contributors?

   Get them involved in doing something concrete. When they're active, they're active. I feel that too often users are welcomed with a user welcoming template, but not given any constructive advice on where to start helping. This could lead to a new user thinking, "There's nothing that I can do to help" since it seems like the low lying article fruit (articles that would be easy to create and that would be interesting to make) has already been picked up.

6. Have you had major conflicts with other editors? Blocks or bans? Involvement in arbitration? Feel free to offer context, if necessary.

   I have occasionally had conflicts with other editors. Nothing major has occurred -- I've never been blocked or banned. I believe that if we just talk it out any disagreement tends to get smoothed over.

7. How often do you edit Wikipedia and check in on ongoing discussions? Will you be available regularly for at least two hours per week, in your role as a mentor?

   In the past few months, I've usually been on Wikipedia at least once a week, usually more. Yes, I would be available at least two hours per week.

8. What else should we know about you that is relevant to being a Wikipedia Ambassador?

   I like emoticons. :)
