Looking through the votes in the straw poll, it seems many users are against the current proposal details, while still being in favor of some type of non-administrator rollback feature. This page has been created to outline and discuss the options for a new proposal that has a better chance of reaching consensus.

Quotes from votes

[edit]

Selected quotes from Oppose votes:

  • "I'd rather have these rights granted automatically..."
  • "Really don't like the admins giving it out bit."
  • "I prefer that non-admins always write a thoughtful description of why they are reverting an edit..."
  • "I agree with this, except when it comes to admins deciding who gets, or does not get, the tools. Let everyone decide ... just like with RFAs..."
  • "The requirement that admins approve or disapprove is enough for me to oppose."
  • "I don't think the extra bureaucracy here is warranted. I would probably be okay with granting rollback to all users..."
  • "I'm not comfortable supporting this proposal as written."
  • "I find this implementation to be the worst possible way in which this great idea could materialize. Idea is great, proposal sucks."
  • "Oppose as written, support idea."

Ideas

[edit]

These are some ideas that have been gathered from votes and discussions. A newly-created proposal could include any or all of the following:

  • Give the rollback feature to all users, without requiring approval by an administrator
  • Change the rollback feature to allow custom edit summaries
    • ...or further, force users to enter a custom edit summary
  • Employ specific standards for the approval of users who request the rollback feature
  • Only allow users to roll back an edit after they have viewed the edit (prevent "blind" rollback decisions)
  • To prevent abuse, limit the number of rollbacks a user can make:
    • ...within a certain time span
    • ...of the same article within a certain time span
    • ...of the same user's contributions within a certain time span

This is by no means a static list. If you have an idea, please add it.
