The New York Academy of Medicine is hosting a private invitation-only Wikipedia editing event for people who are already familiar with the Academy's archives. This event aims to introduce librarians and other attendees to Wikipedia editing, and to improve the article on the organization using independently-published books and other works.

Please bring a laptop with you!
- Bring your laptop, power cord and ideas for entries that need updating or creation. We'll also have a few laptops on hand for participants to use during the live event.
We'll have a selection of print materials and sources on hand at the event.
- We're going to get copies of some printed reference materials to have on hand at the event for participants to use during the live event.
Getting started
[edit]- If you do not have one already, create a Wikipedia account
- While logged into your Wikipedia account, please register as a participant in this event
- Identify a reliable source which is interesting
- Consider whether it meets Wikipedia's standard for quality described at WP:Reliable source or Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources (medicine)
- In your own notes off-Wikipedia, collect 1-3 facts from the publication
- Now browse Wikipedia to identify an appropriate Wikipedia article where you might post your facts
- Click edit at the top of the Wikipedia article
- Add the fact to the place in the article which you choose
- Cite your source
- Consider reviewing others' submissions
- Repeat article editing cycle
