Wikipedia:Meetup/RooseveltUniversity

The library at Roosevelt University in Chicago is holding a small edit-a-thon event on the afternoon of Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 2pm to 6pm in Wabash 1109 (the building is located at 425 S. Wabash).

The event will be focused particularly on expanding the article about St. Clair Drake, a sociologist who was (among his other accomplishments) a prominent member of the Roosevelt University faculty for a number of years in the mid-20th Century. He made contributions to the fields of African-American studies and African studies that are not well represented in the existing article. His article is currently a stub, and the RU Library will have extensive print resources available for people to use in adding clearly cited information to the article. The library also hopes to use the event to raise awareness about how Wikipedia articles are constructed and what role scholars can play in that work.

I (Jwrosenzweig (talk)) am the "experienced Wikipedian" who'll be at the event helping new users to accustom themselves to editing the site, and other librarians coordinating the event also have some experience with editing. We anticipate a small turnout, and that activity will be very focused on that one article (and perhaps also on a small cluster of articles connected to Drake's work).
