Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/February 2009

The Monthlong NYC Museum Wikistravanganza was held on select days throughout February 2009 at "Wikipedia Loves Art!" museum photography events around the city.

Like Wikipedia Takes Manhattan, we'll were joined again by our friends from Free Culture @ Columbia and Free Culture @ NYU, the local chapters of Students for Free Culture.

It should be noted that these are separate events, and certainly no one is obligated to attend them all (though it would be fun).

There was also a special business meeting on Feb 7 dedicated to discussing meta:Wikimedia New York City issues with guests from the Wikimedia Foundation.

Also note that the Film Society of Lincoln Center is sponsoring a movie house architecture competition at the same time.

Feb 6 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

Intro session in the museum (Art Study Room at the Uris Center for Education)

  • Friday, February 6 from 5:30-6:30 pm, Metropolitan Museum of Art. We'll be joined by the Free Culture folks during the intro session, which will be in the Art Study Room at the Uris Center for Education (enter at the 81st Street entrance), where we'll meet the participants and explain the project. The actual photography event can last until the museum closes.

Feb 7 at the Brooklyn Museum

Intro table in the museum lobby

  • Saturday 7 from 5:00-11:00 pm, Brooklyn Museum. This is the night of the First Saturday party at the museum. We'll be joined by the Free Culture folks at our table in the museum lobby, where we'll meet the participants and explain the project. Don't worry, everyone's not gonna stay at the table the whole time, but a least a couple of us will stick around there.

Feb 19 at the Jewish Museum

  • Thursday, February 19 from 6:30-8:00 pm, Jewish Museum. We'll have special free admission passes available that evening for Wikipedians and our Free Culture friends. We'll be joined by the Free Culture folks in the museum lobby, where we'll do check-in, meet the participants and explain the project. Photography will be in the Culture and Continuity: The Jewish Journey permanent exhibition on the 3rd and 4th floors. This is a special opportunity to enhance Wikipedia, because photography is not usually permitted in this museum.

Feb 27 at the Museum of Modern Art

  • Friday, February 27 from 6:00-8:00 pm, Museum of Modern Art. MOMA is free Friday nights. We'll be joined by the Free Culture folks in the section of the museum lobby right after the visitor's ticket is taken (the lobby facing the garden), where we'll do check-in, meet the participants and explain the project.
