2023 Zambia Writes for Wikipedia campaign is an annual event aimed at promoting the creation and improvement of articles related to Zambia on Wikipedia. The event provides a platform for Zambians to contribute to the world's largest online encyclopedia and share their knowledge about their country's history, culture, and current affairs with the rest of the world.
The campaign is open to everyone, from experienced Wikipedia editors to beginners who are interested in learning how to contribute to the platform. Participants are encouraged to write articles, expand existing articles, and translate articles from other languages into English. The event also offers workshops and training sessions to help participants improve their Wikipedia editing skills.
The 2023 Zambia Writes for Wikipedia campaign is an opportunity to showcase Zambia's diverse culture, history, and achievements to a global audience. It is a chance to highlight the country's unique contributions to the world and to promote understanding and appreciation of Zambia's rich heritage.

Event timetable
[edit]9:00 AM: Registration and networking
- Participants arrive and register for the event. They can meet and network with other participants over coffee or tea.
9:30 AM: Opening remarks
- The organizers give an opening speech, welcoming the participants and providing an overview of the day's events.
10:00 AM: Wikipedia editing workshop
- A Wikipedia expert leads a workshop on how to edit Wikipedia effectively. Participants learn how to create new articles, improve existing ones, add references, and use reliable sources.
11:30 AM: Editing session
- Participants have the opportunity to apply what they learned in the workshop by working on Wikipedia articles related to Zambia. They can work individually or in groups.
1:00 PM: Lunch break
- Participants take a break for lunch. The organizers can provide snacks and drinks or a catered lunch.
2:00 PM: Wiki expedition
- Participants go on a Wiki expedition to a location related to Zambia's history, culture, or geography. They take photos and gather the information that can be used to create or improve Wikipedia articles.
4:00 PM: Editing session
- Participants return from the Wiki expedition and have the opportunity to work on articles related to the location they visited. They can add photos and information they gathered during the expedition.
6:00 PM: Closing remarks and networking
- The organizers give a closing speech, thanking the participants for their contributions and providing an overview of the impact that the event had on improving Wikipedia's coverage of Zambia. Participants can network with each other and exchange contact information.
