Celebrate International Labour Day by joining a community interested in promoting labor history by editing the popular online encyclopedia Wikipedia. Part celebration and part workshop, help us build awareness and increase visibility of our labor collections and expand page content for labor subjects, individuals, and organizations. We’ll draw content from labor-related collections at the University of Maryland, including AFL-CIO Archives. No editing experience necessary, however ability to use computers and search the internet is necessary. You’ll receive complimentary issues of Labor’s Heritage journal.

Archival Resources @ UMD

[edit]

Access databases with your public library card: The Baltimore Sun and some other newspaper archives on ProQuest can also be accessed with a Maryland Library card. Here, for example is a list of databases accessible with a card from [Enoch Pratt Free Library] system. Here is a similar list for members of the PG County Library. If you live in Maryland you can get a library card in either of these systems and in most others around the state. If you live in the District of Columbia or Virginia you can get a library card in PG County and some other systems in southern Maryland.

Archival and manuscript collections

This Edit-A-Thon will focus on creating and expanding articles for archival collections at the University of Maryland. Links to collection information and finding aids can be found here: ArchivesUM: Labor in America
