Possible
[edit]- If i'm off work, i'll be there. I'll know in two days, and will update my status then. seinman 05:56, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- I'm interested, but when & where? Also, I'm interested in safety issues.Laleenatalk to me contributions to Wikipedia 23:24, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Laleena, according to my sources, Argo Tea is in a very safe area (daytime), between a Borders bookstore and a popular movie theater. It is close to mass transit, but parking your car will take planning. --Ancheta Wis 06:30, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- I think that if it is going to be in Hyde Park (according to the last e-mail) the Medici Restaurant on 57th Street and Kenwood Avenue may be a good place to look into. Or, Pizza Capri on Harper Avenue and 53rd Street might also be a nice place to meet. Though, I'm not sure about wireless Internet access at either location. Galo1969X 02:40, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
- I might stop in, but most likely not. I'm having some friends over at my place that day. Jpers36 13:06, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunately I have other commitments on that day. However, I will try to stop by briefly. —Jeremy (talk) 19:41, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- It's possible. I may have to work. GlassCobra 20:16, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Nope, but let me know about future Wikipedia Meetups around Chicago
[edit]- I'd love to, but I have rehearsal and then my Grandma's 90th birthday is in the afternoon. However, it was in the evening, I'd still be all for it. Williamnilly 16:56, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- Good to know, but this one too far from me. Lantonov 06:08, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
- Chicago is close enough that I could conceivably make it up for the weekend (I live in Nashville), but I've got prior commitments for that weekend. EVula // talk // ☯ // 21:15, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- I already have plans for this Saturday, but would love to get involved in future Chicago meetups (I live up in Lake County). This is the first I've heard of the meetup concept and I love the idea. Fishal 21:52, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Won't be in Chicago that weekend. I'm only a resident during the school year October-June. --Gimme danger 19:02, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- Cannot attend on that date at that time. Perhaps at another meetup. --JohnDBuell 01:18, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- I wish I could, but I will be out of town that weekend. -- DS1953 talk 17:46, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- Relatives from out of town, daughter's birthday, can't make it. Shsilver 18:14, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- Wish I could, but I won't be able to travel to Chicago that weekend (I live in Saint Louis). - jredmond 01:42, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- Ack, better late than never. Mackensen (talk) 02:20, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Nope, and I'm not interested in attending any Chicago meetups either
[edit]- Nothing personal. I'm sure you're all nice people. Zagalejo 04:42, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
How can I help?
[edit]- Whether or not you can come, you can still encourage other available people to attend.
- If you're driving and can offer a ride, please say so.
Directions
[edit]For information on mass transit options see the CTA's website and Metra's website. Here is the downtown mass transit map.
Use whichever of these makes more sense for where you're starting from:
- Brown Line: Exit at Randolph/Wabash. Walk 1.5 blocks west along Randolph past Joffrey Tower, Macys, and across State Street. Located between Borders Books and Ford Center for the Performing Arts Oriental Theatre across from Block 37.
- Green Line, Orange Line, and Pink Line: Exit at State/Lake. Walk 1 block south along State Street to Randolph. Turn right past Borders Books. Located between Borders Books and Ford Center for the Performing Arts Oriental Theatre across from Block 37.
- Red Line: Exit at Lake/State. Walk 1 block south along State Street to Randolph. Turn right past Borders Books. Located between Borders Books and Ford Center for the Performing Arts Oriental Theatre across from Block 37.
- Purple Line: Transfer to Red Line at Howard, then as above. (The Purple Line does not provide service to the Loop on Saturdays.)
- Blue Line: Exit at Clark/Lake inside James R. Thompson Center. Walk to corner with the Richard J. Daley Center, Chicago City Hall, and Chicago Title and Trust Center in front of the Monument With Standing Beast. Turn to walk east along Randolph. Located between Borders Books and Ford Center for the Performing Arts Oriental Theatre across from Block 37.
- Yellow Line (Skokie Swift): Does not run on Saturday.
Be advised: The Washington/State stop on the Red Line is closed for construction. Also, the north end of the Blue Line has been running very slow of late due to track repairs; allow at least an extra half hour in transit times from points west of Jefferson Park. This includes O'Hare.
- Millennium Station on the Metra Electric Service is three blocks west of the venue.
- LaSalle Street Station is adjacent to the LaSalle/Congress stop on the Blue Line, or about a mile walk direct.
- Ogilvie Transportation Center is two blocks south of the Clinton/Lake station on the Green and Pink Lines, or about a mile walk direct.
- Union Station is three blocks north and one block east of the Clinton (Dearborn) stop on the Blue Line, or slightly over a mile walk direct.
There are other stations on some lines which are convenient to CTA stations. The RTA's trip planner is reasonably good at finding manageable routings when considering Metra service.
- All Amtrak routes involving Chicago arrive and depart at Chicago Union Station. From there, walk three blocks south and one block west to the Clinton CTA station on the Blue Line. Take the train toward the Loop (see train directions above). Or walk the seven blocks east and four blocks north to the venue (about 1.2 miles).
By car
[edit]Please note that the venue location, Argo Tea, is in the Loop. If you drive, you will need to find parking, which will be expensive (typically $20 to $40 in a commercial lot or garage). On-street parking can be hard to find. You may wish to consider parking at a remote location and using mass transit. The City of Chicago enforces streetside parking restrictions on Saturdays, and you do not want your car towed in Chicago (there is a towing charge in addition to the ticket, and the city tow lot can be hard to find). Argo Tea's Loop location is at 16 West Randolph.
- From the northwest: Take Interstate 90 (Northwest Tollway) to Cumberland (Exit 79B). Park at the Park and Ride; take the CTA Blue Line to the Loop and detrain at the Clark and Lake station. Allow 75 minutes for the train ride.
- From the west: tbd
- From the southwest: tbd
- From the south: tbd
- From the east: tbd
- From the north: tbd
By air
[edit]- Fly to O'Hare International Airport (ORD), then take the Blue Line (Chicago Transit Authority) (See directions above). Allow 90 minutes for the train ride.
- Fly to Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW), then take the Orange Line (Chicago Transit Authority) (See directions above). Allow 60 minutes for the train ride.
