Edit-a-thon for Notable Chemists and Chemistry
- at the 250th American Chemical Society (ACS) National Meeting & Exposition
- Join us for a training and editing session to improve coverage of notable chemists and chemistry topics on Wikipedia.
- As one of the web’s most visited reference sites, Wikipedia serves as a starting point for many non-scientists to learn about chemistry topics. Wikipedia is an openly editable resource, meaning that you can improve the quality and accuracy of Wikipedia entries. During this training, attendees will learn the basics of how to edit Wikipedia entries and be given time to practice their skills with experienced Wikipedians.
- Those who wish to participate on-site must register. 15 seats will be available to the public on a first-to-register basis. (See below for instructions.)
When
[edit]Wednesday, August 19, 2015 from 1:30 to 5:30 PM

Articles to work on
[edit]- WikiProject:Chemistry is a portal for collaborating in Wikipedia around chemistry subjects.
- A list of articles about chemists is available on the list of chemists page.
- A list of requested articles about chemists is available on the Wikipedia:Requested articles/Natural sciences/Chemistry page.
- A list of chemistry pages needing attention by subject matter experts is available on the Wikipedia:Chemistry articles needing expert attention page.
- Some Nobel Prize winners in chemistry have very short articles.
- Some Presidents of the American Chemical Society have very short or no articles.
- ACS offers a significant number of national awards, which may be noted on individual chemist pages, including the Priestley Medal, ACS Award for Encouraging Women into Careers in the Chemical Sciences, ACS Award in Pure Chemistry, Melvin Mooney Distinguished Technology Award, E. V. Murphree Award in Industrial and Engineering Chemistry and the Garvan–Olin Medal.
Articles closely related to ACS that might pose conflict of interest problems: American Chemical Society, Chemical Abstracts Service, ACS journals, award categories, and other ACS programs and services should not be edited by ACS employees. Individuals are reminded that conflict of interest editing is strongly discouraged. This includes edits to articles about yourself, your employer, and others with which you have a relationship.
