What to bring
[edit]- a laptop/tablet/smartphone (laptops preferred as you will be doing a lot of typing!)
- ideas for topics or articles you might want to work on (see below)
- any relevant reference materials you might have
- a friend – we love to meet new would-be-editors! (you can also bring your spouse, kids, family, etc.)
- any digital photos you've taken that you would like to use on Wikipedia.
- or, if you don't have any of the above, just bring yourself :-)
Ideas for editing
[edit]- Plenty of Berkeley-related articles that need creation/improvement
- Campbell Hall (home of the UC Berkeley Astronomy Department)
- Etcheverry Hall (home of Nuclear Engineering Department, that once housed a complete nuclear reactor)
- Henry Durant (first president of the University of California)
- Chancellor Edward Strong and Dean Katherine Towle (key university figures during the Free Speech Movement of 1964-65)
- Nalanda Hostel on Center Street (home of Indian revolutionary Har Dayal while he stayed in Berkeley around 1913)
- How Berkeley Can You Be Parade (this was a thing between 1996 and 2008)
- See this list of notable Berkeleyeans, with accompanying works in the library
- University of California Botanical Garden and Blake Garden (Kensington, California) could both probably use some more info. Walter Alvarez's article is pretty barebones for how accomplished he is.
- Lead contamination in Oakland doesn't cover stuff regarding urban gardening yet.
- Many of Berkeley's neighborhoods are only sparsely covered.
- Many prominent figures involved with the Peralta Land Grant that once covered most of the East Bay, including Vicente Peralta, are covered poorly or not at all
- The Berkeley Student Cooperative's article is disorganized, and few houses have their own pages, although most could warrant one.
- online resources at the BPL -- could be good resources for sourcing biographies, art & music articles, and local/California history (with full text access to newspapers)
- your suggestions here...
If you really don't know what to do, try a random Berkeley article.

1. Minor edits to Lawrence Hall of Science, University of California Botanical Garden, and Dewey Decimal Classification Wikipedia articles.
2. Now following @wikidata on Twitter
3. Learned how to use Wikipedia Sandbox for major edits that can optionally merged at later times
4. Suggestion to create and significantly edit http://guide.localwiki.net/berkeley/; map South Berkeley using www.openstreetmap.org, add Elmwood neighborhood category to section The Neighborhoods of Berkeley, do a "walking tour" of South Berkeley, create issue page of "gentrification" of South Berkeley as part of Real Estate marketspeak NOBE
