Join us for the Aphra Behn / Burney Society Edit-a-thon at Duquesne University on Wednesday, November 1, 2017!

College Hall

The Aphra Behn Society and the Burney Society of North America will host a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on Wednesday, November 1st from noon to 5:00 in 644 College Hall as a pre-conference event in honor of Adrianne Wadewitz. This event is free and open to the public.

We will create a community of the participants from the event to encourage the ongoing use of Wikipedia and Wikipedia editing in the classroom. A roundtable presentation featuring Laura Runge and Tony Howe speaking about Wikipedia is scheduled for Friday 9:00-10:15 (Session V.c Digital Humanities Roundtable, chaired by Karen Gevirtz and also featuring Melanie Holm and Greg Specter).

The event aims to promote:

  1. Women in the arts, 1640-1830
  2. Wikipedia feminist activism
  3. Public humanities

This event is supported by a Rapid Grant from the Wikimedia Foundation.

The Aphra Behn Society and the Burney Society of North America will host a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on Wednesday, November 1st from noon to 5:00 in 644 College Hall as a pre-conference event in honor of Adrianne Wadewitz. This event is free and open to the public.

The event supports women's studies, cultural literacy, technological literacy, and the ongoing use of Wikipedia and Wikipedia editing in and out of the classroom. Kelly Doyle, West Virginia University's Wikipedian in Residence for Gender Equity, will conduct training, and provide an introduction to Wikipedia editing practices. We will provide wifi, snacks, and on-site support. (Bring your laptops and gear.)

All conference attendees are encouraged to participate. Just check the box on the registration form.
