Wikipedia:Legal Bans

Wikipedia is unusual in that it has a muti-layered banning policy, from executive decisions by Jimbo Wales right down to the community ban - a ban so uncontroversial that not a single administrator is prepared to remove it.

Nevertheless, Wikipedia exists in the real world, and it is a fact that in real life certain people are not permitted to edit networking sites such as Wikipedia - indeed their very presence may be corrosive or even dangerous. It is our duty (and in some cases our legal obligation) to keep such editors off Wikipedia.

With that in mind, the WP:OFFICE has the authority to ban such people from Wikipedia. The community does not.
