Wikipedia:Irregular verbs on Wikipedia

Wikipedia's jargon lends itself to the development of certain irregular verbs that may confuse people.

To be blunt

• I call a spade a spade.
• You are uncivil.
• They are driving away editors.

To have double standards

• I ignore all rules.
• You are inconsistent.
• They act abusively and out of process.

To have a conflict of interest

• I write encyclopedia articles about notable subjects.
• You create pages about unimportant things.
• They are engaged in self-promotion.

To engage in vote-stacking

• I contact people who are interested in this subject.
• You violate WP:CANVAS.
• They spam.

To sock

• I work with colleagues I trust.
• You are in a faction.
• They are in a tag-teaming conspiracy.[1]

To be rude

• I may have said things that, in retrospect, were somewhat intemperate. Who could blame me though, really, considering what I have to put up with on a day-to-day basis.
• You are violating WP:NPA and WP:CIVIL. Please refrain from further inappropriate behavior, or I will report you to WP:WQA.
• He/she is a disruptive troll and must be blocked indefinitely.[2]

To add uncited material

• I add material that is obviously verifiable, if you know anything about the field at all.
• You sometimes neglect to provide inline citations.
• They are filling the encyclopedia with unverifiable garbage.

To infringe upon copyrights

• I am faithful to the original source.
• You plagiarize material.
• They engage in wholesale WP:COPYPASTE violations.

To cite sources

• I cite websites that are acceptable for the context of the claims.
• You cite books that are sometimes weaker than I'd like.
• They cite scholarly journal articles, which I'm reverting because that will encourage them to add even better sources.

To revert

• I remove problematic material.
• You revert.
• They edit war.
