[edit]- orphaned image, recently absent uploader, qustionable license as there is no notice on the source site that indicates that only attribution is required to use images from the website. Jordan 1972 (talk) 00:26, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- Image was uploaded Sept. 8, 2004. If you use Internet Wayback to look at the version of the Acorn website that was in place at that time http://web.archive.org/web/20040815045611/www.acorn.org/index.php?id=6 there is the following comment on use of images in the "gallery": "Photos spotlighting ACORN's work from around the country. These pictures are available for reproduction. Please email ACORN your name and the name of your publications as well as your intended purpose. Please clearly give credit to both ACORN and the photographer." The gallery page itself from the 2004 site is here: http://web.archive.org/web/20040820211742/www.acorn.org/index.php?id=54 and it says the following on the bottom of the page: "These photos are available for reproduction. Please give credit to ACORN®, and please notify ACORN® at acornnews(at)acorn.org." I think one might read this as allowing images to be used so long as Acorn is credited. I realize this image is orphaned, but there is another similar image uploaded at the same time by the same user that is still in the Acorn article. Given that Acorn is quite easy to contact, perhaps someone could contact Acorn directly if they feel clairification is needed. I'd suggest contacting the press person linked on the press page. - orphaned image, question with the license as the small clip of the authorization states "you have my permission to use the Alstoemeria image" and the restrictions given in the license state "...provided that I use it in the Amancay article..." leads me to question if the request for permission simply asked if the image could be used on the article; if so, the image is not free enough. - orphaned image, very unlikely a free image given the source is ESA which states non-commercial and non derivatives, and NLR is a pay-per scan site for satalite images. Jordan 1972 (talk) 01:24, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

- orphaned image, absent uploader, the terms of use provided require the source's logo be visible which may imped derivatives (thoughts on the license issue - if free move to commons?) Jordan 1972 (talk) 13:34, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- Comment: The current terms of use at http://www.nordregio.se/stats.htm say "All images are the property of Nordregio. They may be freely used as long as the logo of Nordregio is clearly visible and the source is cited accordingly". It's not clear to me whether this should be understood to permit (nontrivial) derivatives at all. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 22:24, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

- does not significantly add to readers' understanding of either of the articles it is in, which each include another nonfree portrait of the pictured subject (individually) Calliopejen1 (talk) 19:58, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- This is an AP photo that used to be used in Idi Amin. Obviously using AP photos is bad because their business is licensing them, so I replaced it with a UN photo (less harm to commercial opportunity). this is now unneeded. Calliopejen1 (talk) 20:05, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- This is an artistic interpretation copyrighted under laws for derivative works; it differs from the original logo. It appears at http://www.trainweb.org/oldmainline where the copyright information is stated; permissions for reuse do not meet Wikipedia standards. I followed Wikipedia guidelines and notified the uploader, asking for removal or substitution of a free version, but he did neither. Given that I advanced it for speedy deletion, but another user reverted my changes. The original logo may be obtainable and would make an acceptable alternative, free of copyright issues.Mtnman79 (talk) 20:37, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- Keep As reviewing admin of the Speedy Deletion request, it was my judgment that this did not meet the narrow criteria for SD, as explained on the image's talk page. The original B&O logo was freely distributed for years by the B&O's publicity dept. in the 1940s–1960s without copyright notice and is in the Public Domain accordingly. This particular version appears to be a simple reproduction of what is a two-dimensional artwork in the Public Domain, which would not have copyright protection per Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp.. In comparing this image to other versions, the artistic expression or creativity seems insufficient to justify assertion of any copyright protection. JGHowes talk 22:52, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
*DeleteAs Howes has stated, the original B&O logo is two-dimensional. An examination of image in question reveals this candidate for deletion is not; this was explained to Howes via talk. The cited Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp. applies only to "exact photographic copies" of images; since the image in question is not an exact copy, it is not in the public domain. At the image's original source, some acceptable terms of use are stated, and those terms specifically restrict copying content to sites like Wikipedia. If non-infringing alternatives are freely available, deleting this image and using one of those as a replacement seems the most prudent and fair solution. Mtnman79 (talk) 03:02, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- Keep The use of former railroad durmhead logos such as this one does meet fair-use requirements. ----DanTD (talk) 20:16, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
*DeleteI was surprised to see Howes's Keep comment here when just hours before at talk he had agreed to scan and upload a non-infringing substitute. What gives? Also note that CSX Transportation claims trademark rights. Has Wikipedia been authorized by CSX? Mtnman79 (talk) 21:03, 19 October 2008 (UTC)- This is now mooted as Image:bologo.gif has been replaced by Image:bologo.jpg which is indisputably not copyrighted. To Mtnman79, as nom of the IFD, please do not !vote three times. Also, copyright and trademark are two different things. JGHowes talk 21:32, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
