- Uploaded by Kintetsubuffalo (notify | contribs). Replaceable unfree image showing a living person. Was tagged with {{rfu}}, but some discussion has taken place. Some user claims the image is not replaceable, and some others (me included) disagree.- Abu Badali 23:10, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Don't delete If you think it's replaceable, then find it. Rlevse 00:54, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but this is not how Wikipedia works. If an unfree image is replaceable, it should be removed even if a replacement hasn't been found yet. --Abu Badali 15:05, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hogwash. How do you know its replaceable if you haven't found a replacement? This guy isn't exactly a household name. Your agrument is ludicrous. Furthermore, I don't see this image as a problem in the first place. You're just a deletionist looking for reasons to justify yourself. Fair Use is clearly applicable here. Rlevse 17:43, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
- Do not delete as per Rlevse and Wim, who have made more cogent arguments at the image's talk page. The image meets fair use criteria, which is allowed by Wikipedia. Chris 01:33, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- My interpretation of his arguments is that "the image is not replaceable because it was taken during an event that will not happen again". My objection to this argument is that the image is not being used to illustrate the event. Instead, it's being used to illustrate the person, and any other image of this person in any occasion other than this event would be a valid alternative. --Abu Badali 15:05, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- Do not delete Sufficient arguments have been brought forward to illustrate the correct application of Fair Use for this picture. There is no question of copyrights being withheld, even, the current copyright holder has been contacted to further allow this picture for free use. Current picture status is a good Fair Use, and therefore should not be deleted. Wim van Dorst (Talk) 13:49, 24 October 2006 (UTC).
- It would be wonderfull if the copyright holder released this image under a free license. Please, read WP:COPYREQ for instrunctions in doing that. The most common mistake is such cases is to request permission for using the image in Wikipedia, instead of requesting the image to be released under a free license. Also, you'll have to foward the email from the copyright holder to a certain wikimedia.org email. Let me know if you have any questions or need any help in doind that. --Abu Badali 15:05, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. I am aware of the procedure and requirements, and have explicitly asked for a norightsreserved like agreement. Wim van Dorst (Talk) 22:00, 24 October 2006 (UTC).
- Don't delete If you think it's replaceable, then find it. Rlevse 00:54, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- Delete. The license boilerplate says "Where no free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information", and, as long as this person is living, it is well replaceable.--Panarjedde 15:29, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
- Mr Kroonenberg is living, but very old, and not appearing in public. And the picture was taken when he was awarded the Silver Beaver. So, it is not replaceable. Please so not ignore this fact. Wim van Dorst (Talk) 17:33, 29 October 2006 (UTC).
- I am sorry, but the license deals with the possibility of taking a picture, not the availability of such a media. If it is diffucult to take a picture, Wikipedia will do without such a picture.--Panarjedde 19:18, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
- It isn't merely difficult, it is impossible to take a picture of an event that took place 10 years ago. In that case, Wikipedia allows such a picture as Fair Use. Wim van Dorst (Talk) 20:44, 29 October 2006 (UTC).
- It looks like a picture of a person, more than a picture of an event. The person is still living. The picture must be deleted.--Panarjedde 13:32, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
The copyright owner has now kindly given the picture to be used freely. This discussion is hereby finished. I'll edit the image summary and the copyright tag accordingly. Wim van Dorst (Talk) 20:35, 30 October 2006 (UTC).
- Great job, Wimvandorst! Just make sure to follow instructions in WP:COPYREQ#When permission is confirmed, and I will promptly remove the if nomination. --Abu Badali 21:12, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
