The Levy Library at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is hosting a meeting for librarians to participate in the Wikipedia #1Lib1Ref (one librarian, one reference!) campaign.
About
[edit]We are getting ready for Wikipedia's #1Lib1Ref campaign. Last year we made a big impact with our call to “Imagine a World where Every Librarian Adds One More Reference to Wikipedia.” The Levy Library is participating in the event on Friday, January 27, 2016 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. We want your help!
Wikipedia’s strength is in its references, which is the source of Wikipedia's reliability. #1Lib1Ref is the library community coming together to give us a most precious gift: a citation. We hope the experience of #1Lib1Ref can provide tools and experience to help librarians critically integrate Wikipedia into the broader research and information literacy landscape. We are doing the coffee hour!

Agenda
[edit]Before the training
[edit]- Highly recommended Be ready to bring to the event an academic paper or other reliable source of information to cite in support of the information you will add to Wikipedia. You will use Wikipedia to distribute information from this source. Try to bring the highest quality most reputable source you can find for the information.
- Create a Wikipedia account, if you do not have one already.
- After creating a Wikipedia account, please register for the event by joining the program
- If you wish, take Wikipedia's own 30-minute online training and tour at The Wikipedia Adventure.
At the event
[edit]- 0:00-0:05 - Introductions
- 0:05-0:10 - Review of action plan - (1) identify fact to share and source to cite (2) identify a relevant Wikipedia article into which to place that fact (3) place fact into article
- 0:10-0:45 - Participants will have the Wikipedia editing experience; demos and support are offered mostly to individuals
- 0:45-1:00 - Break, group discussion, demos - you might be done at this point!
- 1:00-1:45 - free session Wikipedia editing
- 1:45-2:00 - Wrap up
