Crop and rotate (maybe also change background color?)
[edit]Article(s): Lucapina and Lucapina suffusa
Request: Could you rotate the image until the shell is properly aligned vertically, then crop away a fair amount of the background. The background color is also too close to the color of the shell so maybe the background could be replaced with another color, or black, or whatever, but it's your call whether to do that or not. Could you crop the image so that it shows only the roof and a few pixels on each side? If you do this, please upload it under a new name. Nyttend (talk) 18:22, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Article(s): Marta Del Sol
Request: A challenge. A new image request, so do not overwrite the file. Please can you rotate Henderson so he is vertical - crop and remove his lower body and the space above his head. I want to use the image sitting next to the one of Larry Hagman. But because A is more narrow than B they look odd when sitting in a double image template. I am not requesting that Hagman is modified, he is just there for reference.Rain the 1 20:53, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
Graphist opinion(s):
- The picture will still look odd if it is rotated because of the position the human body is in at that pose. It will look unnatural and even an untrained eye would easily discern some photo trickery. Its possible to do, but it won't look good.

Request: Make them look better. Also, the Ford Presidential Library recently donated several hundred thousand images to Commons. Some are in the form of contact sheets. See Category:Contact sheets by the Ford White House. If you are interested in working with the Ford Presidential Library commons material to help improve that material (or can suggest ways to improve the images), please post a note at User_talk:Bdcousineau. Graphist opinion(s): I have worked on the extracted image, please find the new jpeg version above. As for the entire contact sheet, I would advise altering each frame on an individual basis rather than trying to work with the whole sheet, as each image is different in terms of colour etc. I would be happy to help further with this, including extracting photos however I am far from an expert in this area, coming from the UK so I wouldn't be much help naming the files! Request: There's discussion at User talk:Bdcousineau that the Ford Library 250,000+ contact sheet images are of little use in Wikipedia articles. However, I think they can be used as is, as well as be enhanced. For the Hank Aaron image, I'm hoping that Graphics Lab can show what Wikipedia can do with such images. The Ford Library is part of the National Archives and Records Administration and Commons may receive 25,000,000+ images from the National Archives and Records Administration, see Archivist of the United States, so these images from the Ford Library may be a test run. For Ford A6748-31, I would like to have a clear image. Feel free to use the original image from the contact sheet. Also, please try to enlarge the original contact sheet Hank Aaron frame 31 image as much as possible while retaining a decent photo. Uzma Gamal (talk) 15:03, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s): Done Centpacrr (talk) 19:18, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
- I think there may be some issue with the WP image update coding or the servers as I uploaded new versions of the two images in this request and while the new versions appear in the thumbnails above and in the upload history table, they do not in the full size image area of their host pages even after purging my browser's image cache. Centpacrr (talk) 21:48, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
- You're correct. Although I can see them in the thumbnails, the same doesn't occur with the actual photos. Let's leave it like it is. You should probably keep the files in your PC so that in case they weren't trully uploaded, you can do it again. But I appreciate your help. For the "little" I could see, it looks very good. Thanks again, Centpacrr. --Lecen (talk) 12:11, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s):
Done – JBarta (talk) 18:50, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
- I don't mean to be disrespectful, but is it possible that you may have accidentally uploaded your copy of the original, not your rotated version? I say that because if you put a ruler across the image along the line of the furthest water that is visible, which shows as a grey line on both sides of the image, you will see that the image is still tilted, I think by the same amount as before? Invertzoo (talk) 20:19, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
- I think there may be some issue with the WP image update coding or the servers as I uploaded new versions of the two images in the request immediately above and while the new versions appear in the thumbnails in the upload history table, they do not in the full size image area even after purging my browser's image cache. Centpacrr (talk) 21:45, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
- Or maybe I just need to purge the cache? Invertzoo (talk) 20:22, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
- The Wikimedia software has some annoying cache issues. The updated image is there, it's just not showing. This should display the current image. Also, I edited the image size in the article slightly so the updated image is displayed. When the WM software makes a new sized thumbnail, it always makes it from the current image. Existing thumbnails and even the full sized version sometimes get stuck in the cache (the WM cache, not your browser's cache). It's an intermittant problem. I have no idea why it happens... it just does sometimes. – JBarta (talk) 22:41, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
- Ah yes! The new image shows nicely in the article now, thanks so much and thanks for explaining about the WM cache issues to me. Invertzoo (talk) 13:29, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Centpacrr, I noticed that in the original train photo there is what appears to be some sort of red thing on the left side partially obscured by the glare, yet in your edit, that appears to be gone. I also found this picture suggesting that you added a small red light. Can you explain why your edit is correct? – JBarta (talk) 14:23, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
- Well spotted, JBarta. The red thing at right is a red marker light, and the larger red thing is a clip-on reflective board, both of which are used to indicate the rear end of the train while running in the opposite direction (the MetroBlitz trains ran with two locos, one at each end). There was only one red light, as shown on the much later picture of 12-003 alongside, by which time the pilots had been altered and steps and handrails had been added for the benefit of window washers. The item that's partially hidden by the glare is another bracket for a clip-on reflective board, and it should be yellow (top) and gray (bottom) to blend in with the "whiskers", not red.
André Kritzinger 15:29, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
- I have to tell you, this sort of thing smacks heavily of original research, which applies to images as well as articles. We've been through that a couple times here recently and the practice of creatively editing images to show what we want them to show is highly unencyclopedic. It's a shame that the image has glare on it, but speculating what's under the glare is not the solution. I think in this instance the best solution is to leave the image unaltered (save for removing the watermark) – JBarta (talk) 15:52, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
