Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/Nikola Tesla/1
GA Sweeps
[edit]This article has been reviewed as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force in an effort to ensure all listed Good articles continue to meet the Good article criteria. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed.
- There are ten dead links in the Notes/References section.
- Author names in the references should be given consistently as surname, forename.
- The references should be listed in alphabetical order of author surname.
- ISBNs need to be provided where they are available.
- "Several biographers note that Tesla viewed the death of the pigeon as a "final blow" to himself and his work." "Several biographers note that Tesla viewed the death of the pigeon as a 'final blow' to himself and his work." These are just two examples where quotations are not attributed. All direct quotations must be attributed imediately.
- The Tesla on money section is a gallery, the use of which is deprecated, and repeats two pictures already used in the body of the article anyway.
- {{cquote}} should only be used for pull-out quotes.
- "Publicity picture of a participant sitting in his laboratory in Colorado Springs ...". Not clear who the "his" is referring to, presumably Tesla?
- "In his experiments, he made mathematical calculations and computations based on his experiments and discovered that the resonant frequency of the Earth was approximately 8 Hertz (Hz)." This is very muddled and needs to be rewritten. He made mathematical calculations in his experiments?
- Theoretical inventions is entirely unreferenced.
- "In the years after, many of his innovations, theories and claims have been used, at times unsuitably and controversially ...". In the years after what?
- Large tranches of the article are unreferenced, even where extraordinary claims are made, such as: "He ripped up a Westinghouse contract that would have made him the world's first billionaire, in part because of the implications it would have on his future vision of free power, and in part because it would run Westinghouse out of business, and Tesla had no desire to deal with the creditors."
- "Shortly before Edison died, he said that his biggest mistake he had made was in trying to develop directed current". Directed current? Is that what Edison called it, as opposed to direct current?
- Several of the images have been flagged for deletion from wikipedia, as they are duplicates of images on Commons. For instance, [1].
- Common words like war or vegetarian ought not to be wikilinked; just creates noise.
I will check back in no less than seven days. If progress is being made and issues are being addressed, the article will remain listed as a Good article. Otherwise, it may be delisted (such a decision may be challenged through WP:GAR). If improved after it has been delisted, it may be nominated at WP:GAN. Feel free to drop a message on my talk page if you have any questions, and many thanks for all the hard work that has gone into this article thus far. As these issues remain outstanding, this article has now been delisted. --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 15:11, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
