The Newspaper Project

The partnership between the State Library of NSW and Wikimedia Australia started with in-house Wiki training, and a program to write Wikipedia articles about current and historic NSW newspapers (those that are digitised in Trove). The Newspaper Project encompasses both List articles and articles on individual newspapers. The project includes creating/editing articles for NSW newspapers as they are digitised by the National Library of Australia as part of the Australian Newspapers Digitisation Program. A list article of over 2000 current and historic newspapers published in NSW was created as part of the project. Procedure Overall process Newspapers in Australia: write a summary of the State's newspapers in this article; List of newspaper in [State] : create a comprehensive master list in sortable table form in a "List" article such as this; List of newspapers in Australia: update this list to link to the master list for the State; Example of article on an individual newspaper: develop articles on individual newspapers (linked from the master list), such as this. Ongoing and completed work During the initial phase of the project (training days and working group), work in progress on individual newspapers was tabulated at NSW newspaper articles. Ongoing activity on newspaper article creation is managed internally, with new newspapers articles linking from the List of newspapers in New South Wales.
