Projects delivered
[edit]Strategic Goal 1
[edit]Increase the quality and quantity of coverage of subjects that are currently underrepresented on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects, with a particular focus on cultural content
Outcomes
[edit]A lot of time in the past month has been spent on the Atlas of Hillforts data import, extending the project page at Wikipedia:GLAM/Oxford/hillforts. I am using ListeriaBot to create drafts that can be adapted into list articles, once a couple of data issues are solved. I am re-employing Cory Salveson, the Wikidata Assistant, and his next task is to finish the matching of hillforts data to Wikidata's existing hillfort records.
With the Electronic Enlightenment and Oxford Text Archive projects, I have been working on a proposal for a pilot project to document multiple editions of a historical book in Wikidata. We had been working on a proposal for a large semantic-web-of-books project, and this smaller project is intended to be a demonstrator for that.
I've shared one file from the Bodleian: an early (1735) feminist book was available as a scan but with a restrictive licence. Now, with permission, I've uploaded it to Commons and in volunteer time, with other Wikisource volunteers, we are creating a transcription.
Partnerships
[edit]I've written a draft blog post to publicise the Electronic Enlightenment accounts that are being offered through the Wikipedia Library. That is now with EE for checking.
Activities delivered in the past month with stats:
[edit]- One hour masterclass at Oxford Digital Humanities Summer School. There were sixty attendees, all researchers or research students in humanities subjects. This was a presentation/discussion so there are no new accounts to report. Twitter reactions are linked from the event page. The session was recorded on video and is being released under a CC-BY licence. I've asked the summer school organisers to share with me any evaluation feedback that specifically mentions my session.
Forthcoming:
[edit]Strategic Goal 2
[edit]Support the development of open knowledge in the UK, by increasing the understanding and recognition of the value of open knowledge and advocating for change at an organisational, sectoral and public policy level
Outcomes
[edit]After a few months of discussion, Wikidata accepted my property proposal for Dissertation Submitted to. This has been added to the 3,237 thesis records imported from the Oxford Research Archive. I published an advocacy blog post calling on other repositories with theses to share their data and links. With some extra evaluation data, this blog post will form part of the project final report.
Partnerships
[edit]On Wikisource, the transcription of the Plomer Dictionary of Booksellers and Printers is ongoing. This, in time, will become a demonstrator for extraction of data from historical books.
Activities delivered in the past month with stats:
[edit]Strategic Goal 3
[edit]To support the use of the Wikimedia projects as important tools for education and learning in the UK
Outcomes
[edit]Partnerships
[edit]Activities in the last month
[edit]None specific to education.
Media (videos, infographics, photos from events)
[edit]- Video of Digital Humanities Masterclass via University of Oxford podcasts; I'm told it will also be shared on YouTube.
