June 2014[edit]Wikipedia is the first stop for many of us learning about a new topic, but what do you really know about how information gets there? Is there some way your library can make use of Wikipedia? In this forum we’ll learn from an expert Wikipedian about how to edit pages, and you’ll dive in and get some hands on practice editing Wikipedia articles. We’ll talk about how libraries can get involved in Wikipedia through events or online initiatives. No previous Wikipedia experience necessary! We'll use the Washingtoniana collections in Gelman Library's Special Collections Research Center as an information base for editing articles on DC history, with special emphasis on DC's LGBT history in celebration of June as LGBT Pride Month. This event includes: a discussion of current and potential Wikipedia uses in academic libraries, the edit-a-thon, and snacks!
