Welcome to the District of Columbia Public Library (DCPL) WikiProject on the English Wikipedia! This is a project focused on providing greater access and sharing DCPL resources with the public and improving Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to the DCPL's special collections (including Washingtonian). Our goal is to foster collaboration between Wikimedia projects and the DCPL in order to make historical and cultural works more discoverable to the public. We intend to do this through the creation of related Wikipedia content and digitization of materials on Commons and Wikisource. Please make suggestions for accomplishing this goal on the talk page. Library Lab[edit]The DCPL is also hosting a popup library lab at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Public Library in downtown DC, through the end of December, with support from the Wiki Society of Washington, DC. The Library Lab is a "hackspace for knowledge" demonstration project at the DC Public Library. The lab is designed as a community center for annotation, classification, creation, curation, digitization; education and publication, reading and writing and media production. The LibLab demonstration project is part of the Digital Public Library of America Beta Sprint initiative, demonstrating modular components that could be replicated elsewhere. The Library Lab is open during the week (Monday - Saturday), including evenings (Monday-Tuesday). It is available for workshops, events, meetups, as well as for anyone who wants to come work on a project (digital humanities related, collaborative, open knowledge or technology, ...) or who wants a place to work on Wikipedia (or learn to edit Wikipedia)! There also are volunteer opportunities, such as to lead workshops or help people who come to the lab, to participate in projects or learn something.
