Wikipedia:Files for upload/Wizard/License

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Files for Upload Wizard
1. Introduction | 2. Search | 3. License | 4. Finish

Files must be released under a suitable license or into public domain to be used on Wikipedia. The vast majority of images found on the Internet are not suitable for use on Wikipedia. If in doubt about an image's suitability for Wikipedia or copyright status please ask first at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

You must also be able to prove the image's license by providing a link to the image as well as a link to the license information about the image (most likely the webpage the image is included on). We are unable to accept images that are only stored locally on your computer as we are not able to access them (requests with a source link such as C:\Users\Username\Pictures\Image.jpg will be declined). If this is the case please consider creating a free Flickr account, uploading the image there and following the instructions in this Wizard for Flickr images.

Which option describes the image's license best?

  • The image is freely licensed
  • The image isn't copyrighted
