The portal was dormant for a long time. I want to put some energy back into it (I remember it being one of the first things that I looked at when I first arrived at WP). --sony-youthpléigh 16:52, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Support - at last this portal has a dedicated "owner" who does frequent updates. Looks nive and clean, has links to lots of categories and places where random editors can find topics of interest to contribute to. I like the fact that WP:FAs and Categories don't have edit buttons making it harder for vandals. It could possibly do with another selected topic, maybe a selected biography. Good luck. ww2censor 23:30, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Minor opposition, concerning FPC#3.4 - the portal has been actively updated just for a month - I'd like to see a longer support time. Also a peer review wouldn't hurt. A "Topics" box is the norm in geographic portals. The archival system is kinda cumbersome... Why is the trivial "Did you know..." the topmost box? feydey 10:43, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks, Feyday. There was a peer review, but it didn't bring a lot of comments. I'll add a topics box. I wouldn't say that DYK is trivial (more fun), but it can be flipped around with the Selected Picture, or the newly added topics box. What's cunbersome about the archives - is a subpage perferred, lacking info, or something else? --sony-youthpléigh 11:54, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I'd prefer a subpage for archives, it's less complicated and also tidier. feydey 12:45, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I've done a compromise - the archive appears in the [show]/[hide] boxes and on a subpage through the [view] linl for each box. --sony-youthpléigh 16:16, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Oppose: The portal has an uncommon look and format, which is refeshing; but without a page border the different portal components seem to float all over the page, which does not help make the portal look "attractive". A little bit more work needs to be put to improve the portal design. More importantly, there should be either a random rotation or a nomination-selection process for the selected components of the portal (article, picture etc.). Arman (Talk) 10:05, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks for your comments, Arman.
- I don't understand the first part - which elements should be boxed: the page, columns, or all individual elements? I would be against individual boxing everything as this just leads to "box cruft".
- There is a nomination process at the bottom of the page - but this certainly can be improved (and more visible). I will work on it. A community-based selection process however sounds unrealistic considering how long the portal was 'dead'. --sony-youthpléigh 15:48, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I've added boxes to stop sections from "floating". I've also added an "Archive" link and a "Suggest" link and form to each "suggestable" element. --sony-youthpléigh 20:22, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Suggestion- replace How you can help the Irish on Wikipedia... with How you can improve the Ireland related articles on Wikipedia... new format looks great. awesome portal. Sushant gupta (talk) 13:16, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Changed as you suggested. Thanks for the kind words! --sony-youthpléigh 14:30, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Mild support- the portal is great and i haven't seen any other portal of such sort but i was thinking if you could add in the news section also; it would then have looked perfect and complete. nice work has been put but you. cheers, Sushant gupta (talk) 15:42, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- There was originally an "In the News" section, but Ireland-related topics on Wikinews are so infrequently updated and almost exclusively about sports that I dumped it just because it was so dirt poor. --sony-youthpléigh 17:34, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Strong Support- never seen such awesome portal. Sushant gupta (talk) 16:19, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment - I agree with all of Armanaziz (talk · contribs)'s points, from above. Could use some more work, formatting, stylistic changes, etc. Consider using {{Random portal component}}, for automatic randomization. There is a large space gap at bottom right. Cirt (talk) 01:30, 5 December 2007 (UTC).[reply]
- Support - Although I also would like to see maybe a biography and/or city/locale specific included instead of just the one article. John Carter (talk) 19:08, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm been putting some thought into comments by Cirt and John Carter. Maybe the {{Random portal component}} could be combined with the locale info suggestion to fill that hole in the bottom right. Have monthly/bi-monthly "series" e.g. counties of Ireland, League of Ireland/eircom League teams, cities of Ireland, UNESCO world heritage sites, etc. One article from each series would be randomly shown at each page view. What think? --sony-youthpléigh 14:10, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Categories name in the Categories section can be shortened by removing Ireland, it is the portal of Ireland, so it is well understood. e.g. Building and structures in Ireland can simply be written as Building and structures.
- Use a larger picture size in the Selected Picture section.
- Did you know... section is looking insane. Either reduce the picture size to best fit the first fact or increase the size of right half. Shyam (T/C) 13:33, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I agree. But I wouldn't call that insane, I call that misaligned. OhanaUnitedTalk page 19:53, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
