- @Sven Manguard: Well, do note that the good images from the American Civil War required back braces and the like to keep people still. There is a drop in quality around 1900 when things got good enough that that was no longer necessary, but things weren't quite so good that they equalled a photo taken in perfect conditions, as was done with the older technology. Don't get me wrong: this is still a bit mediocre, and there's some restoration artefacts on the hat brim, but it's worth noting that for future images.
