- Reason
- Dark purple Trichoglottis orchid (Trichoglottis atropurpurea) at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. This is a VI and QI on Commons and I find that I keep coming back to it. Nominated for FP on Commons a while back and have since made a few adjustments based on feedback provided there.

- Comment - Nice image... is it possible to darken the background a bit so the lattice isn't as prominent? — Chris Woodrich (talk) 08:24, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Crisco 1492: Thanks. I had a go at darkening in the version that was nominated, but have uploaded two more versions. version at time of nomination, slightly darker, playing with levels, and the current version, bringing the brightness down too. It can go even darker, of course -- I'm just worried about it looking artificial, maybe? — Rhododendrites talk \\ 15:44, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
- Support - Looks good to me. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 07:49, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
- Rhododendrites, I am leaning to support, how about a tighter crop, for example CSS image crop on right? Bammesk (talk) 16:48, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Bammesk: Thanks. Personally, I prefer being able to see the whole "arm", but you are not the first person to propose such a crop. I'd like to see this one through before attempting the crop (since it's already a QI/VI, a major change like that would require a separate file/nomination anyway). — Rhododendrites talk \\ 15:58, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
- Understood. Bammesk (talk) 02:02, 15 May 2018 (UTC) . . . sidenote: alternates can be added to noms and voted on, examples [1], [2]

- Comment why so many ghosts? Tomer T (talk) 15:36, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Tomer T: not sure what that means. Is that jargon I'm unfamiliar with? — Rhododendrites talk \\ 16:36, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if that's the correct term, but you can notice many unnatural "spots" or "halos" around the flowers and leaves in full resolution. Tomer T (talk) 09:42, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
- I guess that's due to some inaccuracy in masking when the background was darkened - halos not visible in original photo, first in the upload history... --Janke | Talk 10:41, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Tomer T and Janke: Yes indeed, thanks. I've gone ahead and reworked the edits pretty significantly, uploading a new version. Hopefully this addresses what you're talking about? New version / previous version — Rhododendrites talk \\ 18:21, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
- Given the edits above are rather late and this nomination will be closing in a couple hours, if this is closed as not promoted before there are any more comments, perhaps you could let me know on my talk page, Tomer T and Janke, if you think it would be worth renominating the newest version. Thanks (sorry for the second ping). — Rhododendrites talk \\ 22:28, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
