After months of redesigning and sourcing, we both think this meets the FL criteria now and is worth a shot at nomination. The Simpsons is perhaps renowned for its celebrity guest stars; the main table offers a comprehensive list of every guest star who has appeared on the show, on what episode and their role as well as detailing the origins, the process of how the producers court a star, and celebrities who have rejected making an appearance.   • "Two guest stars—Ricky Gervais and Seth Rogen—wrote the episodes in which they appeared" - possible semantics here, but technically Rogen co-wrote the episode (maybe reword a bit to reflect this)?
    • Done, though sounds a bit clunky.
  • According to Groening, guest star choices "come from the writers saying, 'Wouldn't it be cool to have [such a person on the show]?'", while showrunner Al Jean has stated the philosophy is "we want to meet our heroes." I'm not a fan of the italicized part of this sentence (something about "the philosophy is" grates on me)

  • "...but was redubbed with Harris who the producers felt was a better fit." I assume you mean Jo Ann Harris? I might repeat her full name, as it is first mentioned in passing

  • Is it worth mentioning any reception of the guest stars? Like maybe the favorite guest stars of television critics? I found these lists: [2] [3] [4] [5]

    • I would personally say that a reception (section or whatever) isn't really necessary for something like this. I mean 1) The page is already huge and 2) A reception section stands to be more empty and meaningless than most receptions sections, due to the sheer number of guest stars so it would largely just be "this guy like these people, so did this guy, this guy liked this other person, he was so funny" and so on - so in my view it would just be trivial.   • "The shorts was developed... " not grammatically correct for me.
  • "show which began in December 1989.[1] The show finished" quick repeat of "show" here, mix it up a little.
  • "The show finished its 23rd season in 2012, having aired 508 episodes." while factually correct, this reads a little too final for me, perhaps say, "As of the end of the 23rd season in 2012..."?
  • "has continued the amount appearing" -> "the number of those appearing"
  • "have had recurring " -> "have appeared as" or "have featured as recurring"
  • " over 20 times" -> twenty (since all the other comparable values in this sentence are spelt out).
  • " on the show.[A] This figure rises to 601 if The Simpsons Movie is counted as well." ->",[A] rising to 601 if The Simpsons Movie is included."
  • You have "some guest stars" but surely the verb, in the context of "so-and-so has guest starred" should be hyphenated?
  • " over the phone" telephone.
  • "for the episode "Stark Raving Dad". After "Stark Raving Dad", " quick repeat of episode name is dull.
  • "have consistently failed to get any former" I dislike "to get" here, maybe "to persuade" or "to convince" or similar.
  • "as well as musicians Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan" this run-on is odd, perhaps "; musicians ... have also rejected invitations to appear on the show."
  • " Michael Caine,[17] Tom Cruise, Clint Eastwood and Anthony Hopkins[18][19] " how do these refs work? One for Caine and two for three others?
    • Moved the Cruise one, Eastwood and Hopkins are covered by the same ref
  • "in the DVD." the "season" DVD perhaps?
  • "with Jo Ann Harris " who she?
    • She was one of the show's supporting cast members, this is already mentioned and she is already linked earlier in the section.
  • The first col of the table needs a heading, like "Season".
  • "used for season 15–19 and 21–23, " seasons.
  • Ref. -> Ref(s).
  • Once I re-sort the table, there appears no way of sorting it back in the original order.
  • Image captions which are complete sentences should end in a period.
  • Check spelling of "Boy-Scoutz 'n the Hood "
  • "I Am Furious Yellow" also.
  • And "That 90's Show".
  • "The Tiger Lillies" are just "Tiger Lillies"
  • John Lovitz appears to be actually called Jon Lovitz.
  • Sally Stevens has guest-starred three times in the show but is red-linked?!
    • Yeah. She's a local LA singer they have occasionally brought in. She doesn't seem to have much notability other than here singing roles here.
  • Note Z episode title missing an apostrophe.
  • What is FOX in some of the refs?
  • IGN or IGN?
  • It's The Wall Street Journal.
  • Don't SHOUT in the ref titles.
  • ref 453, since when was Reuters a work?
  • You relink The New York Times but not Yahoo! Tv. in the refs, be consistent.

  • Unlink American per WP:OVERLINK

    • I think it is; it sounds awful without it.

  • Guest stars have appeared on The Simpsons since its first season. I'd imagine that, perhaps re-word
    • I don't see an issue. Just because it may be obvious doesn't mean it shouldn't be stated.
  • What makes Ref. 412, 419 (The Futon Critic) a good source
    • The pages in question are just copies of the offical Fox press releases for those episodes because they are no longer listed on the Fox website. Futon is genreally considered one of the most reliable TV sites of all; it's been cited by Rolling Stone as being used by networks, and the New York Times.
  • Those book sources should be linked to the actual general source above before the citations
    • Is this strictly needed? I mean, I'm sure there's nothing more fun and useful than linking some 200 references. But in this case it seems pretty pointless.

  • "Hartman has made the most appearances, appearing 52 times." Not a big fan of "appearances" and "appearing" coming back-to-back.
  • "Two guest stars: Ricky Gervais and Seth Rogan earned writing credits...". Instead of this awkward colon, try bracketing commas around the names. It will read better if you add them.
  • History: Semi-colon in the first sentence of the section should be a regular old comma.
  • The List of guest stars heading doesn't need the first two words. The similar heading that follows doesn't have them, and they are a touch redundant in any case.
  • Period needed after (i.e. BABF, CABF, etc.) in the pre-table notes. Otherwise the sentence this is in never ends.
  • What makes Simpson Music 500 (ref 455) a reliable source? Giants2008 (Talk) 01:43, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
