I am nominating this for featured list because I feel that this article meets all the FLC criteria, and is engaging and comprehensively details all Texas hurricanes 1980-present in an effective and encyclopedic manner. This list mixes in the elements of all other similar types that WikiProject Tropical Cyclones has produced to create a unique, special, and FL-worthy article. More info on Tico, and Hermine. I'd remove the second sentence about Don as it is not that important. There appears to be some missing systems on mostly EPAC storms. The storms are Polo 84, Rachel 90, Rosa 94, Juliette 95, Danny 97, Madeline 98 though all but two of these systme never did that much. Also, why is there a need for {{clear}} after the 1990-94 section? And, David Roth works for the HPC, not the NWS. YE Pacific Hurricane 16:33, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Why is the lead in past tense while the rest of the article is in present?
  2. "The first storm to impact the state during the period was also Hurricane Allen in August 1980, and the most recent was Tropical Storm Don in 2011." – "and" → "with" (refer to first comment).
  3. "At least 12 tornadoes are also reported as a result of Allen, with one causing $250 million in damages after damaging hangars and aircraft at Robert Mueller Municipal Airport" – The usage of damages and damaging in close proximity to each other is a bit redundant. Find another word?
  4. "Two people are killed, one due to the driver deliberately driving their vehicle into flooding water." – You mentioned how one died, why not the other?
  5. "Mid-November 1980 – Hurricane Jeanne over the Western Gulf of Mexico causes tides to rise up to 4 ft (1.2 m) above average along the Texas coast. Coastal flooding also occurs with the worst being near Galveston. Minimal damage is reported." – A comma is needed after "Mid-November", with another needed after "occurs" in the second sentence.
  6. "Late-August, 1981 – Tropical Depression Eight moves ashore northeast Mexico on August 29 and into the United States on August 30. As an ill-defined surface low, a large thunderstorm complex formed near its center that day, which unleashed very heavy rainfall in a 50 mi (80 km) wide band covering a 200 mi (320 km) path from Seguin to north of Houston. The highest rainfall amount reported is from Cheapside, where 18 in (460 mm) fell in the 24 hour period ending on the morning of August 31. Five die in the town of Shiner due to the heavy rains. Heavy rain in downtown Hallettsville causes floods and torrential rain, reaching a peak of 5 ft (1.5 m). Significant flooding occurs along the Lavaca, Guadalupe, and Colorado rivers in Texas. Damages from the floods amount to nearly $21 million." – You swap between past and present tense here.
  7. "October 13, 1981 – Hurricane Norma produces 21 in (530 mm) of rain near Dallas-Fort Worth, killing five after making landfall on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Multiple tornadoes touch down in six counties in the region, injuring three. Hurricane Norma causes $50 million in damages and kills three people in Texas." – Switch the order of this sentence so it read landfall in Mexico --> impact in Texas and not impact in Texas --> landfall in Mexico like it does in its current state.
  8. "September 11, 1982 – Tropical Storm Chris makes landfall near Sabine Pass, causing wind damage to Port Arthur." – Any specifics?
  9. "August 28, 1983 – Hurricane Barry, a weak Category 1, makes landfall just south of Brownsville and forces the evacuation of 4,000 people, but causes minimal damage." – This may sound picky, but there is no such thing as a weak Category. Use minimal and then replace the use of "minimal" at the end of the sentence with "minor".
  10. "Mid-September, 1984 – The remnants of Tropical Storm Edouard cause severe flooding in South Texas, with some amounts in excess of 20 in (510 mm)." – That's not worded too formally. How about, "The remnants of Tropical Storm Edouard cause severe flooding in South Texas, where some isolated locations receive totals in excess of 20 in (510 mm)"?
  11. "Hurricane Bonnie makes landfall in Southeast Texas as a Category 1 hurricane near High Island. Bonnie kills four people in Texas and heavy rainfall causes street flooding, with rainfall peaking at 13 in (330 mm) and many areas picking up at least 10 in (250 mm). Bonnie also spawns four tornadoes in Texas." --> "Hurricane Bonnie makes landfall near High Island in Southeast Texas, killing four people and producing heavy rainfall that causes street flooding. Some areas receive totals above 10 in (250 mm).
  12. "An unnamed storm makes landfall near High Island, Texas producing over 1 in (25 mm) of rain over East Texas." – Comma after the first use of "Texas", and change "East Texas" to "the eastern portions of the state".
  13. "Some areas receive 11.8 in (300 mm) of rain, causing some localized flash flooding." – Redundancy with the word "some".
  14. More vauge-ness with some sentences across the article. State specific rainfall totals, not just say "it causes some rainfall at location X".
  15. Make sure all windspeeds are rounded to the nearest five (ex. 135 mph = 217 km/h).

All of the headings, and the en dashes you added, look like this: 1980

  • Could make lead image bigger so we can see more detail.
  • "at least 69" vs monthly stats table which lists 68...
  • I would expect the lead to be a bit larger for an article of this size per WP:LEAD.
  • Don't think you need to link common terms like "hangar" or "aircraft".
  • Or "tide".
  • Something a bit odd with ref 17.
  • And isn't it The Gainsville Sun?
  • Ref 102 could use an access date.
  • Ref 110 uses the format=pdf parameter, most, if not all of the other PDF sources don't use this. Be consistent.

  • In the Deadly storms section, the total deaths table does not meet MOS:DTT, you need to add col and rowscopes. Also not evident what is referencing the table. I notice ref 1 has a list of deaths from hurricanes, would out the ref next to the caption so its evident what the ref for the table is. NapHit (talk) 15:44, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • The col and row scopes point is valid, but each death total is already individually referenced in the prose sections. I suppose a new column could be added to list the refs for each storm, since it's not the same ref for all of them. —Torchiest talkedits 15:55, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
