My first article here in quite a while. In this draft, the first overall selection, Ken Griffey, Jr., was a 13-time All-Star, while the second overall selection, Mark Merchant, never played in a Major League Baseball game.   • "Chicago White Sox first" -> "Chicago White Sox's first"
  • " In total, 27 All-Stars were drafted, " perhaps reinforce " In total, 27 All-Stars were drafted in 1987, "? Especially as you say "no players from the draft have " in the next sentence.
  • You've already abbreviated National and American League in the lead so no need to do it all over again, just use the abbreviations.
  • "set for June 2–4, and would occur as a conference call to" a 72-hour conference call? Really?
  • " in the June draft; in years past, teams would draft junior college players in a separate draft" draft three times in one sentence.
  • " The 1986 World Series champion New York Mets drafted third-to-last, with the runner-up Boston Red Sox selecting last." ref?
  • I think you should mention in the lead that 1,263 players were drafted in this draft!
  • "Compensation x" shouldn't be in bold, maybe italics?
  • " to 13 All-Star games, won seven" would keep the same number format for comparable items per MOSNUM, so "thirteen ... seven".
  • The suc-box has overcapitalised "1st Overall Picks".

  • Fixed all but the hours problem, no refs go into detail about that, but I assume it wasn't a 72 hour draft. I'll see what I can find on the manner. Also, the bold Compensation can't be fixed without changing templates, but I don't feel like this is too big of a problem. Albacore (talk) 14:43, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • "Griffey would become a 13-time All-Star...". Wouldn't this be Griffey, Jr. instead?
  • Background: "In the NL, the Pirates finished with league's worst record for the second year in a row...". Needs "the" before "league's".
  • Aftermath: Here we have Griffey Jr, without the period and comma that should probably be there.
  • Note 1: "the" needed after "received".
  • Note 5: "Angles" is used twice in place of the correct Angels.
  • Apostrophes would be useful in notes 1 to 5 for the end of the recipient teams names of the teams that lost the picks.

  • First two sentences have conflicting tenses.

  • Chicago White Sox's or Chicago White Sox'? Also, don't we usually use "The" in front of team names?
  • The last paragraph of the lead seems to require some citing
  • two years after they drafted him, Merchant no longer played for the organization. - awkward construction. If he was released, just say it.
  • The Pirates made the playoffs for three consecutive seasons from 1990–1992 but lost in the National League Championship Series all three years. - relevance to the topic at hand?
  • would draft higher. - is this the common term?
  • If a "type-A" player became a free agent, the team that lost the type-A player would receive the first-round draft pick from the team that signed the player, as well as a "sandwich pick" between the first and second rounds. If the player is a "type-B", the team that lost him would receive a second-round pick from the team that signed the player. - You're mixing tenses again, should all be simple past.
  • Link Winning percentage somewhere

Comments –
  • Replace reflist template with {{Reflist|colwidth=30em}}. This allows the browser to automatically choose the number of columns based on the width of the web browser, thus making it all-encompassing and flexible to all readers.
  • For "General" refs, place {{refbegin}} at the top and {{refend}} at the bottom (see recently-promoted FL List of Major League Baseball pitchers who have struck out three batters on nine pitches for more info on both comments)
  • Everything else looks good
