I am nominating this for featured article because I think I have scoured everything I possibly can for this plant, and anything of note is now here (and it's a fairly short article). I promise to be prompt in replying. I love these plants as they are very green. Yes this is a wikicup nomination...so have at it (PS: Note that the genus is named after a mycologist...but this is a member of the proteaceae, two of my favourite topics :)) .Casliber (talk · contribs) 13:44, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Comments
- Ref 6; Knight, Joseph contains a bare url and an wiki link with only one [] on either side.
- fixed Casliber (talk · contribs) 19:56, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- The page no in ref 18 is bolded, while none of the other page numbers are bolded. Wtf? Why do you hate wiki?
- someone stole the page numbers.....repatriated now Casliber (talk · contribs) 19:56, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Ref 7 needs to be reformatted.
- done Casliber (talk · contribs) 19:56, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- These are small things. Have read the page today and not seen anything otherwise that I cannot fix myself. Ceoil (talk) 13:55, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Spotchecks completed on 3 sources; no copy vio or close pharaphrasing; sources back claims. Ceoil (talk) 19:42, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Support on the basis of good sourcing, the article is well written, seems to be comprenhsive, and all images all free. (note I went through it in detail yesterday, before the nom). Ceoil (talk) 13:08, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Source review - spotchecks not done, after e/c with Ceoil. Nikkimaria (talk) 13:57, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- FN 2: date?
- tricky as autogenerated to today's date on website. Casliber (talk · contribs) 19:56, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Be consistent in whether you provide locations for publishers. If you do decide to include them, be consistent in what is and is not abbreviated
- FN 6, 7: formatting
- see above Casliber (talk · contribs) 19:56, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Check for minor inconsistencies like doubled periods
- FN 13: duplication
- FN 14: include both authors?
- combined refs - only a few pages anyway Casliber (talk · contribs) 19:58, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- FN 18: page numbers. Nikkimaria (talk) 13:57, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Link check - no DAB-links, no dead external links, 2 minor wikilinks fixed. GermanJoe (talk) 15:33, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- all fine Casliber (talk · contribs) 07:06, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- In my browser, the image for "Description" is displacing the heading below, is it possible to improve the appearance?
- this is tricky, and no one solution will be good in all browsers. I did put the rangemap in the taxobox, which might lengthen the description section a tad. Musing..... Casliber (talk · contribs) 11:19, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- appear in summer and autumn followed by — comma after autumn?
- yeah, comma helps and duly added Casliber (talk · contribs) 10:48, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- the lanceolata group — italics?
- double-checked. Yes italics Casliber (talk · contribs) 11:14, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- The annual rainfall of the area it occurs in the Sydney Basin is 900–1,400 mm (35–55 in), and it ranges from sea level... — I don't like this, reads as if it's the rain that's ranging, which it probably does, can you tweak?
- (a) rejigged the range bit to beginning, and (b) it is correct in that the rainfall where it occurs is 900-1400mm. There are other parts of the Sydney Basin which are dryer. Casliber (talk · contribs) 07:06, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- The layout's not a big deal, everything else OK Jimfbleak - talk to me? 11:41, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Comments from J Milburn-
- "the seed are spread" Singular/plural?
- oops, plural, fixed Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:28, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- "Andrews also named P. latifolia from plants" Odd phrase
- me sloppy. overfamiliar with descriptions. reworded Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:31, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- In the map caption, could you specify what's being shown? As someone not from Australia, I could only guess the territory.
- As a native New South Welshman I am mortally offended you couldn't recognise the premier Aussie state (sigh)...now named Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:33, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Capitalise "lance-leaf geebung" in the taxobox? Also, there's no mention of the common name outside the lead/taxobox
- name added to taxonomy section, and ref removed from lead, and capp'ed in taxobox Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:37, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- "Persoonia lanceolata is described as auxotelic" Abbreviate binomial?
- abbreviated Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:37, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- "0.5 cm (0.20 in)" One sigfig to two sigfigs
- one sigfigged Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:49, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- "On 0.5 cm (0.20 in) stalks, the flowers may reach 1 cm (0.39 in) in dimensions, and are typical for the genus." Ref?
- got it now. Casliber (talk · contribs) 19:49, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- "Animals can convey seed for one or two kilometres from where they have fead."
- oops, fixed now Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:49, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- "Filiglossa bees of the same genus also feed only on Persoonia flowers but do not appear to be effective pollinators." Same genus as what? Surely, Filiglossa is the genus?
- Filiglossa is subgenus within Leioproctus - better (?) Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:52, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- "European honeybee (Apis mellifera)" For consistency, it should be the common names which are linked
- streamlined Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:52, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- In the ecology section, don't be scared of redlinks. All these species, ideally, will eventually have articles, so redlinks are a good thing.
- duly redlinked Casliber (talk · contribs) 13:28, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- "by sandmining" What's that? Link?
- linked now Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:54, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- "hardy to moderate frosts and dry spells" Unclear
- "tolerates" much less jargony and essentially synonymous. Casliber (talk · contribs) 13:05, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Can we have a subcat of Category:Plants by year of formal description added?
- done Casliber (talk · contribs) 13:07, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Are the drupes edible? Have they or any other part of the plant ever seen use by humans, other than horticultural uses?
- Yes the fruit of most if not all species are edible, and were consumed by aborigines.
I have not found a specific reference to lanceolata though but might put a general sentence in.found two refs for this species being edible. The foliage of many species was used as decoration, but haven't seen a specific reference for this species. Casliber (talk · contribs) 13:14, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Generally a great article- not super-long, but that's obviously not a problem. I'm sure I'll be happy to support once these issues are resolved. J Milburn (talk) 23:02, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Support, unless someone else raises any legitimate issues. The article's looking fantastic. J Milburn (talk) 21:58, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
CommentSupport –"Within the genus Persoonia, Persoonia lanceolata belongs to the lanceolata group of a 58 closely related species." The "a" should be removed from this. Other than that the writing looks good.Giants2008 (27 and counting) 15:20, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- got it, how'd I miss that one......... Casliber (talk · contribs) 00:35, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- It's easier than you think, isn't it? That's the only complaint I had about the article, so I moved to support up there. Nice work. Giants2008 (27 and counting) 16:05, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Question — Can you add accessdates for refs 1, 5, 6, 7, 11, 13, 14, 15, 18, and 19? HurricaneFan25 | talk 22:05, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- The latest consensus is to add accessdates to those which are web only, not published books or journal articles. Those are done. The template didn't have a slot for it so have slotted it in afterwards. Casliber (talk · contribs) 01:48, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Image review All images have appropriate licences and captions Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:42, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- I went out for a bushwalk today and got this and this to illustrate the drupes - I was chuffed with the fill-in flash on one but maybe the other is better...Casliber (talk · contribs) 09:08, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- PS: Also got a photo of the trunk today, but I am not sure I can fit it in the article....? Casliber (talk · contribs) 10:20, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Is it possible to adjust the lead (and body if necessary) for WP:SEASON? I know it's not always doable ... SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:18, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Does that help? Casliber (talk · contribs) 21:00, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- It does, but could you deal with spring and any other occurrences as well? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:30, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
