Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/Good log/January 2013

After spending a lot of time and effort, I'm glad to report that this season now has GA's for every single storm worthy of having an article. This is the first attempt at a Good topic for the western Pacific, which is usually one of the most impacting basins on the planet. I think everything should be up to par! ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:25, 22 December 2012 (UTC) --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:25, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

Comment the main GA is showing no fewer than 11 dead links right now. Don't think we should be promoting topics where the quality of the main article is questionable. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:59, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- Considering how many links are in the main GA, how do 11 dead links (of which 4 are the same as another link, so really 7 dead links) make the quality questionable? I mean, I'll fix it, but I think that's a bit unfair of criticism, considering I worked on the article for several months. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:04, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- It was just a comment, not a "criticism" per se. I just felt that the lead article should be the best possible, so fixing the dead links (or better still, archiving the links) would just improve Wikipedia. If that's unfair, I guess you should sue me ;)! The Rambling Man (talk) 18:06, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- Perhaps you could also see to the four dead links at Typhoon Chataan, the one at Rusa and the eight dead and sixteen "connection issue" links at Typhoon Pongsona, just the three featured articles in this proposed topic... The Rambling Man (talk) 18:14, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- Ah, sorry, I'm just really proud of the article series, and I don't want anyone to think the quality is questionable! I hope no one thinks a few dead links suggested the topic isn't ready. For whatever reason, it's listing "Oanda" links as dead, although they're fine in the articles. They all should be good now. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 06:17, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
- Okay, not a problem, just wouldn't want the topic to be promoted only to be quickly demoted because one of the contributing articles is not up to the required standard. Cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 11:58, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Closing as promoted. The dead links appear to be dealt with; however, as I've stated elsewhere (perhaps at WT:GA in the past), dead links do not render a citation invalid, just not readily verifiable to all and sundry—placing them in the same realm as library books, newspaper article, et al, that can't always be seen from the comfort of one's computer. Here we have the second season of The Office, which is generally regarded – by fans and critics – as the best year the show ever produced, myself included. I believe this topic meets the requirements as it is a listing of all the episodes that aired during the television series' second season, which limits it to a well-defined scope. The articles follow a solid formation and bear close structural resemblance to each other. In addition, the individual episode pages read as clearly related articles meant to be viewed in a series, but also stand on their own and present their information without expecting the reader to understand the topic as a whole. Some of the articles have been promoted for a long time, such as the main season page, which was promoted to FA in 2008. However, never fear, for I have worked on it tirelessly to bring it up to speed (Check out this comparison). The same goes for about half the episodes, which were promoted about four years ago. But again, I have worked tirelessly to improve them (Here's a few more examples). --Gen. Quon (Talk) 04:14, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

- Support but what's with the choice of image? Nergaal (talk) 17:26, 25 December 2012 (UTC)
- I've picked a different actor/actress for each season. Krasinski for the second, since the seasonal arc was largely about his character's struggle. Season three is of Rashida Jones, four is of Melora Hardin, five is of Rainn Wilson, six is of Jenna Fischer, seven is of Steve Carell, and eight is of Ed Helms. Hope that clarifies.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 00:12, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
- I don't know, I'd rather more Hardin. GRAPPLE X 20:21, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
- I maintain that the biggest sin the show ever did was writing off Hardin's character.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 02:48, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Comment - topic well covered but the FL at the head of the topic has three dead links and tables which don't comply with WP:ACCESS, plus the lack of alt text (these are current requirements of a FL). I would hate to see the topic demoted in the next month when the list is demoted for these failures (plus other much more trivial issues). The Rambling Man (talk) 17:56, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up. I fixed the dead links, fixed (I believe) the chart, added alt text, and beefed up the lede. How does it look now?--Gen. Quon (Talk) 20:01, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

These articles discuss the topic of tie-breaking games and series held by Major League Baseball to determine who reaches the postseason in the event of a tie at the end of the regular season. The lead article is an FL, and all other articles are GA. I have included everyone who nominated an article for GA/FL (Stax did most of the work). --– Muboshgu (talk) 17:46, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

- Support. Was considering adding the Shot article, but as that is not a tie-breaker in and of itself the topic should be fine without it. Wizardman 23:19, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
