Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/1933 Atlantic hurricane season/archive1

An on and off project for the past seven years, but it's finally done! 1933 was once the most active Atlantic hurricane season, and there were several important hurricanes. All of the storms that are article-worthy have them. Storms 5, 13, and 18 could theoretically get articles, but I don't see them missing as being a major missing link. For 5, it was a weak hurricane that happened to affect US (meaning there is probably info, but not much more than what's in the article). 13 struck a week before a much deadlier hurricane, so there isn't enough info. And 18 only affected the Caribbean, weirdly without that much info. A Google news search reveals minimal info for it. So I think the topic is done then. Hope you enjoy it! --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 02:13, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
- Interim comments: This appears to meet the good topic requirements, but I would be grateful for your thoughts on a few points:
- 1933 Trinidad hurricane : I made a minor copyedit, to swap in a word that seemed to fit better, but the article is still deserving of the GA status it attained in 2012. However, it's still not entirely clear to me what beach is meant by "Along the beach" in 1933 Trinidad hurricane#Impact. Is it the Mexican or Floridian coast?
- Clarified it meant Mexico. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:04, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- 1933 Texas tropical storm : I made a minor copyedit. In 1933 Texas tropical storm#Impact, it might be worth clarifying whether the damage across Shelby and Panola counties was $1.5 million per county (i.e. $3 million across the two counties), or some other set of figures that added up to $1.5 million (in which case, are the specific figures for each county available?).
- Clarified the $1.5 million was the total between the two. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:04, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- 1933 Chesapeake–Potomac hurricane : I corrected a single grammatical error. Otherwise, this article is obviously still of GA/A quality.
- WHOO! --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:04, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- 1933 Cuba–Brownsville hurricane : No issues.
- 1933 Treasure Coast hurricane : In 1933 Treasure Coast hurricane#Meteorological history, it would be helpful to orientate the dates to the actual subject. For example, you instead of "on August 27 […]", you could say "on August 27, four days previously, […]". The dates are particularly important because of the hurricane's proximity to another storm, so having to scroll back to the lead or infobox to get a reminder of the context of the dates is burdensome where it wouldn't otherwise be. No other issues.
- I think I know what you meant. I clarified the other hurricane moved through the area in late August, but I left out the date to reduce confusion. Does that work? --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:04, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- 1933 Outer Banks hurricane : No issues.
- 1933 Tampico hurricane : No issues. This article is particularly good (though that may be because the martial law happenings make it even more interesting to read).
- 1933 Cuba–Bahamas hurricane : No issues.
- 1933 Atlantic hurricane season : This article was promoted to FA some years ago, and I see concerns have been raised on the talk page that there is inaccurate information. Is the article up-to-date and does it still satisfy the FA criteria? It seems sound, but I assume you will have recently reviewed it from an expert's perspective.
- I updated much of the info earlier this year, both in preps for this GTC, as well as due to a big update to the hurricane database. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:04, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- Across this range of articles, is it conventional not to use {{Inflation}} to give updated figures, particularly in the case of a hurricane season as old as 1933's?
- Good work! AGK [•] 22:51, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks so much for reading all of the articles! As for inflation, it doesn't add too much, since $10 million in 1933, which would've been a lot then, would only be $180 million nowadays, which an average tropical storm does with little fanfare. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:04, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- Super – that resolves all my concerns. Thanks for responding. This is my first time doing one of these, but I guess this is where I support promotion of this topic :-). AGK [•] 23:23, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

- Support - likely the most thorough and well-written seasonal series in the hurricanes project. Well-deserving of this distinction. – Juliancolton | Talk 23:15, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
