I would like to create an article on Phiilip Chancellor IV

[edit]

I would like it if I can make a profile on Phillip Chancellor IV from The Young and the Restless, since he is returning to the show in I'm hoping will be a contract role to the show so if you would be so kind as to let me make a profile on Phillip IV. Jester66 (talk) 03:10, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WP:WikiProject Soap Operas is where you will find the people interested in this. If you can find multiple publications that feature this character then you can make an article, but for the mean time you can add into The Young and the Restless minor characters#Phillip_Chancellor_IV

There's no article on xtranormal.com yet, sooooo...

[edit]

Xtranormal, or xtranormal.com, is a popular website created for the purpose of creating short animations by typing animations and words into a box using 1 of 6 themes: "The PlayGoez", "The Beige", "The Pawz", "The Teenz", "ChuChuRockz", and "The Superzeroz". Another one, entitled "The Robotz" is coming soon.

And you guys can come up with the rest: here are some links.

YOu need to find some independent sources as well to show that other people write about it. Once you have found two reliable references, then you can write an article. What you have above is enough to write a STUB. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 01:07, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Now? (No Doubt song)

[edit]

"Happy Now?" is the fourth track on the No Doubt album "Tragic Kingdom" and was released in 1997 as the 5th single from the album. It failed to hit charts anywhere.

Its tracklisting is:

01: Happy Now? 02: Let's Get Back (From the album "No Doubt") 03: D.J.'s (Live) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Monorail91 (talkcontribs) 15:07, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If it failed to chart then de facto it fails WP:MUSIC and does not qualify for a separate article. – ukexpat (talk) 16:24, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Additional entry needed for Jose Padilla?

[edit]

As far as I can tell, there is no Wikipedia page for Jose Padilla. Not the terrorism suspect, but the guy from Honduras whose case is currently before the Supreme Court on Sixth Amendment (ineffective lawyer) grounds.

I have started to create a little page about him in my sandbox, but I would very much appreciate any feedback. Here is a link to a brief description of the case: http://www.oyez.org/cases/2000-2009/2008/2008_08_651

Sra. Bibliotecaria (talk) 23:39, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have added some wiki markup to your sand box, you probably need about one or two more reference from an independent source such as a news paper to show notability and interest of others in the case. Otherwise I think it is ready to make an article. You cannot call it Jose Padilla as that is a disambiguation page, there are quite a few with the name. So perhaps José Padilla (petitioner) or José Padilla (Honduran). Other categorisations could be a BLP issue. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 00:45, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A Article On An Obscure American Author

[edit]

I have a friend in Oregon who is a pretty accomplished yet obscure author. I've been trying to create a simple Wiki entry on him yet it seems my article writing skills are lacking in the "significance" dept. I was wondering if anyone could offer me some tips on how to keep my article from being deleted. And also how I could describe the significance of this author. Thank you

---- —Preceding unsigned comment added by FCShelbourne (talkcontribs) 13:02, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Amazon lists Travis King as a children's book illustrator, not an author. Your description of him as obscure does seem accurate, and I am doubtful that he can be considered notable, which is why the two articles you submitted were deleted. I would suggest that before you create an article on anyone, that you start with a sandbox version, and only create a full article when you have a polished article ready for moving. --DThomsen8 (talk) 14:04, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New article on Takou Himiona Kamira

[edit]

I have drafted an article based on my great grandfather and his manuscripts which have been held in a vault in a library for many years. They have not been allowed general access to date but we are working towards enabling access over the upcoming years so that they may be studied.

Published sources about the man himself and his work therefore do not exist yet, aside from one small story that he wrote (not online), and which was published by a university on the 60s; and a newspaper obituary published in 1953 (also not online) - I have referenced these. While the obituary is not online and nor is the story, the Professor at the university and the reference to the story can be found.

I think the main problem is that Wikipedia emphasises legitimate sources but there are none of the nature I think people are used to - e.g. peer reviewed articles, books, etc. In other words, this will be the first if my article is allowed to remain on Wikipedia and it is exciting to think that once up, many people here will find it and it will encourage them to start adding.

I have a future book planned on this man and his work but that is probably a couple of years away. The research for this will be mainly through studying his manuscripts and interviewing the old people to find out what they can recall.

Can this article be allowed in Wikipedia mainly without published sources like this?

I have a draft here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Rkamira/Himiona_kamira

Thank you

Rkamira (talk) 22:38, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, unfortunately this will be counted as Original research as Wikipedia is not supposed to be the first place that facts are made known. You have put the proposed article in the right place to save it from being deleted from main space. I will take a look at your proposal, because it could still be a learning experience for you! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:44, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have added the <references/> tag to that your foot notes become visible. You could add in a few section headings to break up the writing into connected sections, such as family, work, life. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:52, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Graeme, I will work in the meantime to get the information more readily available elsewhere - it will take a while! Rkamira (talk) 06:33, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Created a page about the Farah massacre in Afghanistan

[edit]

Found out today the largest massacre of civillians by the USA in Afghanistan was not listed.

I tried to make a page but its rubbish. How do you make the page better?

I did a copyedit to fix spelling word order and make internal links. Suggestions for improvement: can you find an official US government web site that mentions this? A reference would be good to give the official point of view. Negative reactions from other would be good to include. Which province is it in? What time of day did it happen? A location map would be good. Is the best term "massacre"? If other terms are used they could become redirects to it: Farah massacre. See if you can find other articles that should reference this one, and create a link with [[Farah massacre]]. Then the article will not be an orphan. It seems to have passed the new article patrol without being deleted. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 06:14, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am going to add this category: Category:War in Afghanistan (2001–present) casualties. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 06:15, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK there is a lot more in the sources that you could add to the article! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 06:23, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No Page for GreenPlumbers USA

[edit]

GreenPlumbers USA is a company page that I would like to get started. I have created something already and would like to request some assistance with preparing the article for posting. You can find what I have come up with so far at my sandbox. Thanks.Penh35 (talk) 19:44, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The references to support the facts and show notability should go at the bottom, and even better attached to the text with ref tags so that we know where the facts come from. Also you may as well generalise it to GreenPlumbers, not just the USA branch, as that would be more notable, and you already have some facts about it. A lot of the article is the list of workshops. Please check that this is not a copyright infringement that copies a big chunk of text from somewhere else. I am sure that I have seen this before in Wikipedia: User:GreenPlumber/GreenPlumbers User_talk:GreenPlumber sandbox and Wikipedia:Drawing board/Archives/2009/March#Want to Create a WikiPage for My Company Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:40, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the feedback. I have been going through adding the references in their respective locations. I have removed half of the workshops and am working on writing it a little differently. The GreenPlumber account was my old account. Trying to prevent COI. Am truly interested in getting something unbiased and unpromotional up about the company because I believe it is a great new take on the plumbing industry. Thanks Again, and feel free to see how it is coming along in my sandbox. Penh35 (talk) 23:13, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looking to create an article on the Pressure Pipe Inspection Company (PPIC)

[edit]

The Pressure Pipe Inspection Company (PPIC) is a world leader in large diameter water and wastewater pipeline condition assessment, PPIC offers forward looking solutions to help address aging infrastructure challenges.

PPIC offers services that pinpoint damaged sections of pipelines to help optimize infrastructure investments, stop leaks, reduce risk and promote environmental compliance.

Services

- Prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP) condition assessment

- Metallic pipe condition assessment

- Plastic and PVC pipe condition assessment

- Leak detection

- New pipeline commissioning

- Pipeline locating and mapping

History

The Pressure Pipe Inspection Company was established by Dr. Brian Mergelas in 1997 after he received his Ph.D. in physics at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. During his time at the university, he studied under Professor David Atherton, who would help steer Mergelas toward his future career.

In the late 1980s, Atherton had been approached by the water sector to examine some challenges with large diameter pre-stressed pipe rupturing, along with corrosion on the pre-stressing wires. Atherton was asked to act as an international expert in pipeline inspection technology to determine if something could be done to inspect the distressed water pipe. From there, Atherton began research and developed a new technology called Remote Field Transformer Coupling (RFTC). RFTC offered water supply system managers information on the location, distribution and number of wire breaks in their pipeline infrastructure.

While Mergelas was working on his degree, he studied technologies pertaining to the oil and gas sector and performed pipeline inspection work for oil and gas transmission pipelines. However, Mergelas eventually shifted his interests to water pipeline inspection after he became intrigued by the opportunities the industry and Atherton's RFTC technology presented. With RFTC as a base, Mergelas began PPIC in 1997 as a means to help utilities assess the condition of their infrastructure in hopes to preserve pipelines, save money and retain valuable water resources.

Remote Field Transformer Coupling (RFTC)

Remote Field Transformer Coupling (RFTC) technology accurately establishes the baseline condition of prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP). The system detects and quantifies the number of breaks in the prestressing wire that reinforces the concrete pipe. RFTC provides water and wastewater system operators with information on the location, distribution and number of wire breaks anywhere along the length of the pipeline.

How it works:

The RFTC technology functions much in the same way as a radio transmitter and receiver. The "transmitter" produces an electromagnetic field. The prestressing wires in the pipe amplify the signal that is recorded by the "receiver". If there are broken wires, the signal is distorted. A measurement of the distortion quantifies the number of broken wires.

Today

With the help of grants from Canada’s Industrial Research Assistance Program, PPIC has been able to deliver on its commitments, building credibility and attracting more funding in the process. In March 2009, PPIC received an $800,000 grant from Sustainable Development Technology Canada to develop its PipeDiver technology, which will allow the inspection of full pipes. Besides keeping the pipes in service, PipeDiver could save the equivalent of 1.5 Olympic swimming pools full of water for every mile of pipe that’s not drained.

It is important to write the article in your own words and not infringe copyright. The today paragraph is copied from the Entrepreneur of the month article. Every single sentence should differ. Also you need to avoid the peacock terms. These come from when you copy others promotional language. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 00:10, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Commonwealth (Creative Studio)

[edit]

Upon research of certain Art projects I have come across the firm, Commonwealth, multiple times. I have started a page [here]. I would like to make the page live. Since there is already a "commonwealth" entry for the despription of the term, I would like to publish the article as Commonwealth (creative studio). Any feedback before doing so would be much appreciated. Thanks --KD (talk) 20:35, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it's ready for the mainspace just yet. It doesn't indicate sufficiently why the company is important or significant, but even if it survived speedy deletion on that basis, it will need more references to reliable sources to support notability. – ukexpat (talk) 20:57, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Post on Indian Classical Vocalist Vijay Koparkar

[edit]

Hi,

I have written an article in my sandbox : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Shalmali.mahajan/Sandbox

It is about a prominent Indian Classical Vocalist. Can someone review it? How do I know that it is accepted?

Thanks, Shalmali.mahajan (talk) 17:18, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly the picture at File:Vijay Koparkar2.jpg is very problematic. It does not appear to have been released under a free license, and there is no source information. You are not able to donate images that belong to other people or organisations, unless the owner has provided evidence that they have released it under a free copyright. The water mark gives a strong clue that this is not free. Some of the language seems promotional such as "He is equally adept ". Reference number 1 is of dubious reliability. It would be a good idea to have more references to confirm the world tour, which seems to be the only claim to importance. Whether this man meets the notability standards is most likely to be determined by WP:MUSIC. If you post back here once you have improved things in the sandbox I will let you know if it is likely to escape speedy deletion. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:19, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your suggestions. Can you please check my sandbox: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Shalmali.mahajan/Sandbox again? I have removed the picture for now, I will add a picture when I am sure it is not under any copyright. Also, it is difficult to find online references. Especially in a country like India where the web is used by a very small population. Will it help if I provide scanned copies of invitations to the world tour or similar? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.246.222.68 (talk) 07:13, 29 June 2009 (UTC) 121.246.222.68 (talk) 07:37, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is very likely that the newspapers in the foreign countries will have mentioned the tour too. A scanned copy of something will likely be a copyright violation too! References don't have to be online, it makes it easy for us to confirm if they are, but newspapers or films will do. A statue of the person could count for notability too.
