Co-op category descriptions

When making or updating your profile, we want to match you to a mentor who can best help you contribute to Wikipedia. To do that, we ask that you choose a general area of editing that best describes what you want to accomplish. Some of these areas overlap with each other, so if you're unsure of what area to choose, don't worry. Pick one area to get started, and you can follow-up with other areas later.

Here are the areas and a brief description of them in addition to example goals/situations for each:

Writing is a good choice if you want help with writing a new article or adding written content to an existing article.

e.g. I want to start an article about a book or, I have new information to add in for the falcon article.

Communication is for questions about conventions related to interacting with other editors in addition to systems used to facilitate communication like the notification system.

e.g. My changes to an article keep getting reverted. Where do I talk to editors about it? or, How do I notify other editors when I need to get their attention?

Best practices refers to editing guidelines and policies on Wikipedia and how they work in practice when it comes to making decisions about article content.

e.g. What is original research and how do I recognize it in articles I edit? or, Why are some association football players included on Wikipedia and not others?

Technical editing is for questions related to the syntax (called wiki markup) used for formatting text and objects on Wikipedia articles.

e.g. How do I create a table? or, How do I add wikilinks to an article? When should I wikilink something?

Images and media is best for matters dealing with uploading images, understanding policies specific to images, or how to properly display images on Wikipedia articles.

e.g I own a photo that I want to upload and add the Daffodil article or, What images can I use on Wikipedia articles?
