Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce/Jazz-funk

I've started to work on this but it's going to be a fiddly job. Here's what I think should be done to tidy this one up:

  • Clean up: I've marked this up for the clean up for the clean-up task force as I don't have the time to pick through this - please don't remove the tags unless you're prepared to add some sources.
  • There isn't a single source listed in the body of the article - who's making the statements included? As we know wiki is not a blog or opinion website - it's an encyclopedia
  • What's the article about: If it's about Jazz-funk - a British genre, why all the links to American artists. In other words a clear definition is required. It's full of opinion and tripping over itself with repeated wikilinking, incorrect wikilinking due to inconsistent article names and generally very confused.--Escaper7 09:34, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Comments:

  • I've started to work on this as well - but it still needs sources citing for much of the first two thirds. I didn't write the article so it will take a bit of unpicking - my area of expertise lies principally at the UK end of things. --Escaper7 14:39, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have been trying to rewrite some the article to help it flow better, but the information is confusing and does not seem to make too much sense in some sentences. I am going to try and contact other contributors to help find out what the original intention was. We are so close to making this article really good. – Heaven's Wrath   Talk  03:41, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Quite apart from anything else the article's inacurate. Jazz/funk has absolutely no connection with James Brown other than they were both influenced by African rhythms. Jazz/funk seems, as far as I can tell from the few books I have that broach on the subject (And from consulting my own record collection), to have evolved from jazz-rock meeting up with Latin/American & African music (Once again, a lot of jazz musicians seem to have an affinity with Afro/Latin, judging by the number of 'Theme' albums released in the genres).
Could I suggest that all 'Art' subjects be prefixed with a note to the effect that "Some of the 'Facts' below will, almost by definition, be opinions which others may not share. Some will contradict others, and some will doubtless annoy you." : ) (Actually if I was to write it I'd be a little more diplomatic, but you get the idea. Art is in the eye of the beholder and can't always be defined by facts.) Deke42 03:22, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Go ahead and re-write then, no harm adding your knowledge to the mix. Escaper7 12:27, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
