Wikipedia:Case-by-case

This is an essay. It contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. This page is not an encyclopedia article, nor is it one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines, as it has not been thoroughly vetted by the community. Some essays represent widespread norms; others only represent minority viewpoints. |
This page in a nutshell: Different solutions will apply to similar problems depending on the specific case in question, rather than being applied simply because they exist |
Although standards are in many cases desirable, standardisation should not be thought of as a goal in and of itself. Given that we are urged to ignore all rules where doing so improves the encyclopedia, editors should judge each case on its own relative merits rather than adopting an approach simply because it was adopted elsewhere. It may be that a separate approach is needed in a seemingly similar situation.
