Programming language(s): PHP
Source code available: https://github.com/banana439monkey/wikimonitor
Function overview: This bot will clear the sandbox, send users messages if someone's forgotten to categorize a page, send users messages if they've made 6 or more edits to a page and send people messages if they've forgotten to sign their posts. This was based off WikiMontior on the Scratch Wiki made by Jvvg.

Edit period(s): Continuous
Estimated number of pages affected: As many user talk pages there are along with the sandbox
Exclusion compliant Yes:
Already has a bot flag (Yes/No):
Function details:
Clears out sandbox: This sets Wikipedia's sandbox to its original state
No categories: This sends a user "It appears that when making the page (page), you did not include any categories. Please remember to categorize all new pages and files. Check out Help:Categories for details. Thanks!
Unsigned message: This sends a user "It appears that on (revision) of the page (talk page), you did not sign your post. Please fix this by adding four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your post to insert your signature and remember to sign your posts in the future. Signing your posts is important as it allows other Wikipedians to see who made a post and when they made it. Thanks!"
Rapid edits: This sends a user "It appears you have made a large amount of edits ((the amount of times you have edited the page) in the last hour) in quick succession to the page (the page the edits have been done to) recently. Please use the "Show preview" button before submitting edits to prevent this in the future."
Discussion
[edit]There are already several bots that clean the sandbox, mine included. Also notifying a user that didn't sign their, a bot already does that too, and even signs for the user. The only useful function I see is the notifying the user when they forgot to add categories. To be honest this whole bot needs wider discussion in my opinion.—cyberpowerChat:Online 20:28, 20 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- We have no prejudice against incremental vs bulk editing - what are you planning on defining as "rapid" ? — xaosflux Talk 21:33, 20 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- (edit conflict) The function overview says "6 or more edits" – I suspect this would annoy a lot of people. The missing categories task is the only one I see with potential, but it does need wider discussion and refinement. A lot of the recipients would be very new users, who are often bombarded with welcome messages and CSD warnings, so we need to be careful. — Earwig talk 21:38, 20 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- I think this is going to be shut down right away User:Banana439monkey, as a brand new (28 edits) editor you likely lack the experience required to supervise such a broad task. Do you have other wiki experience? — xaosflux Talk 21:35, 20 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- {{OperatorAssistanceNeeded}} This bot account is 10 years old - please make an edit with the bot account here to show you have control of this account. — xaosflux Talk 21:58, 20 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm planing on defining rapid as too many in a short time Banana439monkey (talk) 05:28, 21 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Denied. — Main issues: 1.) we already have bots to handle aspects aspects of sandbox resets (Cyberbot I, Lowercase sigmabot II); 2.) my bot already handles unsigned talk posts and notifications to users (also, in a significantly more advanced and less error prone way than this bot's implementation, I say objectively and with no ego); 3.) you haven't demonstrated control of the account despite a request for you to do so... and even if you do, its naming doesn't clearly indicate it's a bot, it's not tagged as one, and its edits so far could be confused with the edits of a regular user; 4.) neither a failure to add categories when creating a new a page nor editing a page several times within an hour is a violation of existing policies or guidelines necessitating a notification to the user (and risks templating the regulars repeatedly); 5.) you appear to be a new editor judging by your account history, contribs, and the lack of knowledge of #1 and/or #2. --slakr\ talk / 06:30, 21 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
