Operator: CBM
Automatic or Manually Assisted: Either, depending on how it's run
Programming Language(s): perl, using same framework as the rest of VeblenBot.
Function Summary: General editing - CfD, TfD, etc.
Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): when necessary. Not contiuous - invoked separately for each task.
Edit rate requested: under 10 edits per minute
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): Y
Function Details: This is a set of scripts to edit articles from a list, like AWB but in perl so it runs on linux. Useful for CfD, TfD, etc. I have been testing it manually and have no issues outstanding. The manual mode allows me to review a diff of each change and manually type 'y' to approve it. The automatic mode (not yet written, but easy enough) would make the changes on its own. I need approval for that, and to run it on the bot account.
Discussion
[edit]We need specific task examples so we can approve a trial. Also, I'd be interested in seeing code for this. --ST47Talk 18:04, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm trying it manually (approving the diffs myself) on emptying some of the cats from this CfD, and I used it manually on some other cats yesterday, several hundred edits total, without any trouble or complaints, using my non-bot account.
- I'll make a tgz file of the code this afternoon. Is is standard to distribute code for this publicly? I don't know whether pywikipedia works "out of the box" but this certainly will. CBM · talk 18:28, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- The source code is here. CBM · talk 01:46, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- OK, Approved for trial. Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. for CfD, TfD, IfD. Make 50 edits or so. --ST47Talk 18:10, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Trial made; see Special:Contributions/VeblenBot starting at 2007-06-01T18:52:16. Performed two speedy category renamings using the bot account, after downloading the code I uploaded yesterday. No code issues, but I don't know whether it is typical to remove excess whitespace during a rename. I didn't notice that before because I was deleting categories rather than renaming them. I'll tweak the regexps some. CBM · talk 19:25, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- For cleanliness, there's usually a blank line between categories and interwikis, like [1], can you do that? --ST47Talk 19:39, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
