Operator: Mike Peel (talk · contribs · SUL · edit count · logs · page moves · block log · rights log · ANI search)
Time filed: 22:14, Sunday, February 26, 2017 (UTC)
Automatic, Supervised, or Manual: Automatic
Programming language(s): Python (pywikibot)
Source code available: See links at User:Pi bot
Function overview: The bot currently fetches feeds and creates a wikitable from them (with appropriate formatting changes). At the moment it updates two pages, m:WMF Advanced Permissions on Meta (with approval there), and User:Mike Peel/Guardian obits here. This request covers the latter, and also similar pages in my userspace in the future.
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate):
Edit period(s): Daily
Estimated number of pages affected: At the moment, just one here, but others may be added in the future.
Exclusion compliant (Yes/No): No (not needed at the moment)
Already has a bot flag (Yes/No): No
Function details: See function overview above, and the links at User:Pi bot to the current pages being updated and the source code. This is a minimally-active bot (nominally only making one edit per page per day, unless bugs arise in which case it may make additional supervised test edits), and I don't think it needs a bot flag. I'm hoping this approval can also cover other similar pages in my userspace in the future.
Note that I previously operated User:Peelbot using AWB, but that bot has been retired since 2007.
Discussion
[edit]It doesn't seem like this actually needs approval. Per WP:BOTPOL#Valid operations without approval, In addition, any bot or automated editing process that affects only the operator's or their own userspace (user pages, user talk pages, user's module sandbox pages and subpages thereof), and which are not otherwise disruptive, may be run without prior approval.
One edit per day to a page (or a few dozen pages) in your userspace seems entirely reasonable. Anomie⚔ 01:10, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- Speedily Approved. Just to close this out, will not be flagged - limited to the above low-volume user/operator pages without additional BRFA's. — xaosflux Talk 01:49, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
