Operator: Pi (talk · contribs · SUL · edit count · logs · page moves · block log · rights log · ANI search)
Time filed: 18:29, Thursday, July 22, 2021 (UTC)
Function overview: Create and update lists of pages that were deleted after an AFD process and which have redlinks in other articles directed at the page. This can then be reviewed and redlinks removed manually if appropriate
Automatic, Supervised, or Manual: Automatic
Programming language(s): Python
Source code available: No
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): Wikipedia:Bot_requests#Red_links_to_AfD_deleted_subjects
Edit period(s): Daily
Estimated number of pages affected: 1 edit per day
Namespace(s): Wikipedia
Exclusion compliant (Yes/No):No. The bot only edits one page, which is created specifically for the bot to edit.
Function details: The bot will update the page Wikipedia:WikiProject_Red_Link_Recovery/Red_Links_to_AfD_Deleted_Pages to create a table of pages which were deleted after AfD and which have redlinks pointing to the page. These pages can then be reviewed by members of the Wikiproject to remove links where appropriate. In order to obtain the data the bot obtains the recent AFD pages, and the deletion log and list of backlinks from the API. For testing I've been running the bot manually and approving the edits after reviewing the draft. Now that the script appears to be stable I propose having it run daily as a scheduled task.

[edit]- Note: This bot appears to have edited since this BRFA was filed. Bots may not edit outside their own or their operator's userspace unless approved or approved for trial. AnomieBOT⚡ 14:29, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- You can maintain this list in userspace and link to that page in a non-userspace page, and that would largely take this outside of BAG approval. I feel like that's usually a better option for these kinds of tasks. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 10:20, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- @Pi: I apologize for the long delay! I don't see the harm in this, let's do a short trial. ProcrastinatingReader's suggestion above is a good one as well - it's how I do these. Approved for trial (7 days). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. !ɘM γɿɘυϘ⅃ϘƧ 22:28, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- @Pi: Just to follow up here: do you still intend to go through with this BRFA? ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 00:57, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Request Expired. @Pi: Do you intend to proceed? Please advise on my talk page or ping me. Given that you haven't edited recently (last edit: Oct 27, one before that Sept 12) and were advised a month ago, I am going to consider this withdrawn for the time being. We can re-activate this if you intend to continue with the process. For purposes of clarity, any BAG member can un-expire and resume this w/o consulting me once contact is established and it is confirmed Pi wants to continue with this task request. --TheSandDoctor Talk 07:35, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
