Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): The parameter was introduced to suppress undesired WhatLinksHere entries created by an ifexist check (Template talk:Infobox journal#Links to DAB pages). A hack was found by Certes (talk · contribs) and is now implemented, meaning |bypass-rcheck= is no longer needed (and could gets in the way of further checks for different abbreviation as they are added).
