Operator: Eugene van der Pijll
Automatic or Manually Assisted: Automatic
Programming Language(s): Perl (custom written)
Function Summary: Updating info on Dutch municipalities and settlements
Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): one time run
Edit rate requested: 2 edits per minute
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): Y
Function Details: I have two databases with useful information on Dutch localities. First of all, I have an update for the number of inhabitants in 2006 for all municipalities. Most of the articles have the 2005 statistics in the infobox (see e.g. Amersfoort); Eubot will update the infoboxes, and at the same time add the source of the information to the infobox.
Also, I have a list of coordinates of almost all coordinates of Dutch settlements, which is more accurate than the coordinates at most articles now. Almost all coordinates are rounded to the nearest minute; this corresponds to a few kilometers on the ground. My coordinates are about a factor 10 times as accurate; this is especially useful when the coordinates are extracted from wikipedia and used in e.g. Google Earth; the current coordinates in wikipedia generally miss the settlements by some distance; mine do not. I will only replace the coordinates if a coordinates template is already available in the article, and if the new coordinates are within a reasonable distance (~5 km) of the old ones.
Discussion
[edit]- Any reason no-one has commented on this bot? Sounds a little like rambot-lite for the Netherlands. - PocklingtonDan 20:28, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Seems like an extension of the types of things Eubot is already doing (successfully). Suggest approval, or at the least a trial if the BAG is feeling ultra-cautious. Alai 04:51, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
