Automatic, Supervised, or Manual: Supervised
Programming language(s): Python
Source code available: Will be available on GitHub
Function overview: EtherBot is a bot for compiling a list (i.e. User:EtherBot/flaggedlist/articles) of new users showing certain criteria such as their first edit being article creation, or a user who has already been warned once and edited again, etc. These lists compiled by EtherBot would be available on Wikipedia for anybody to see/use. Additionally, EtherBot would note if a user has been warned for the specific edit. This would be of use to vandal reverters.
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate):
Edit period(s): Continuous
Estimated number of pages affected: 10 - will only be editing said lists
Exclusion compliant (Yes/No): No
Already has a bot flag (Yes/No): No
Function details: Works by interpreting the contributions/talk page of new users, continually scans user creation log, as well as the talkpages and contributions of users put on the list. EtherBot does not edit any namespace other than the user page of itself, therefore does not need to comply with {{nobots}} or other anti-bot tags.
Discussion
[edit]Hello, the username does not comply with WP:BOTACC. Also, could we have an estimate of the edit rate please? Thanks. Hazard-SJ ✈ 02:06, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- The username shouldn't be a problem, although it may not identify the owner or task; it is "immediately clear that its edits are made by an automated account". -- Cheers, Riley 02:21, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- This BRFA is unnecessary; a bot does not need approval to edit its own userspace: In addition, any bot or automated editing process that affects only the operator's or their own userspace (user page, user talk page, and subpages thereof), and which are not otherwise disruptive, may be run without prior approval. - Okay, thank you. I suppose I'll go along my way with this bot, inform some people, and come back if I decide on some more tasks outside of its userspace. Cheers! Withdrawn by operator. ChaseAm (talk) 03:48, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
