Automatic, Supervised, or Manual: automatic
Programming language(s): Python (pywikibot)
Source code available: Not published
Function overview: Adding {{WikiProject Biography|living=yes or no|class=autoassesed if possible otherwise blank|listas=}}
. Similar to Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Dreamy Jazz Bot 4, but will run over year of birth type categories and will have some rules for tagging BLPs
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): A discussion I opened at the same time as opening this BRFA is at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography#More automatic WikiProject tagging. A discussion with no participation for the previous similar task is at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography#Automatic WikiProject tagging.
Edit period(s): One time run, but may re-run if there is need
Estimated number of pages affected: Approximately 2,000
Exclusion compliant (Yes/No): Yes
Already has a bot flag (Yes/No): Yes
Function details: Similar to Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Dreamy Jazz Bot 4, but I would like to run the bot on "year/decade/century of birth" categories. The definitive list will be at User:Dreamy Jazz Bot/Task 4.2/categories when ready.
The bot will be functionally the same as the previous task (same code is going to be used), but some extra features are needed for when the article is in Category:Living people. The living parameter's value will be "yes" and:
- If the WikiProject banner shell is present, the bot will as usual add the WikiProject banner in the banner shell. If the talk page does not use a {{BLP}} like template (checked by looking for the presence of Category:Biography articles of living people) the bot be extended to add "|living=yes" to the banner shell.
- The bot will skip and log the page if there is no banner shell on the page and a {{BLP}} like template is on the page. This is because there will be situations where the {{BLP}} template was placed in a certain place deliberately and simply adding the WikiProject banner to the page would lead to duplication of the BLP notice. I will use AWB to semi-automatically deal with these pages, as I have been doing before.
I have been using AWB running through pages in Category:Living people and tag them with the banner, which is a similar task. I have received support for these edits. This bot task will reduce the amount of work needed to complete the tagging and also decrease the potential increase in unassessed articles (as when the banner was not on the page, I would add it without assessing). The bot will skip pages with bots disallowing the bot and will skip the page if this task or Task 4 (BRFA Dreamy Jazz Bot 4) has already edited the page to prevent edit warring. [edit]Approved for trial (50 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. Primefac (talk) 23:52, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

- Restricted the categories on the last 20 pages in the trial run to year of birth categories which are post 1920s to try and get some BLPs to tag as part of the trial. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 17:35, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Trial complete. I miscounted how many edits the bot had performed before I restarted the bot (as detailed above). This means the bot performed 51 edits. I should probably count the edits with my computer next time . Before the run and mid way through the run I did some testing and found some minor bugs which have been fixed. I could see no edits which had issues caused by the bot. I did find one page which was not included in Category:Living people (Oren Cass) when it was a BLP (so the bot followed the rules and did not tag it with living). I added the category to the page when I noticed this. From my previous AWB runs which add the category to BLPs, this should be a rare occurrence, but I will do another run to find more pages. From my inspection of the edits, the bot has used (and so tested) all the new features. Thanks, Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 09:53, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
