Operator: Tim1357 (talk · contribs)
Time filed: 00:26, Thursday March 3, 2011 (UTC)
Automatic or Manually assisted: Automatic
Programming language(s): Python
Source code available: On request.
Function overview: Create talk page redirects for Redirects from shortcuts (limited to the Wikipedia Talk namespace)
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): None (will start community discussion if deemed necessary by BAG)
Edit period(s): Monthly
Estimated number of pages affected: 7,134 on the first run and a few each run thereafter
Exclusion compliant (Y/N): Yes
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): Yes
Function details: The Bot looks in Category:Redirects from shortcuts for redirects that do not have talk pages. The bot then determines the appropriate target and creates a redirect to that target on the talk page.
For Example:
- If the redirect WP:BAG exists but not the talk page redirect WT:BAG, the bot finds the target for WP:BAG and then creates a redirect (to the corresponding talk page) at WT:BAG.
- The bot does not create the redirect if the target talk page does not exist.
Discussion
[edit]I'm unsure if this task requires a community discussion. It seems like an uncontroversial task, but if needed I'll go to WT:REDIRECT to see if there is any opposition. Tim1357 talk 00:33, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- I don't think that this in uncontroversial. I can't find anything in the Wikipedia namespace about it through a 30 second search, but I'm almost certain that there's guidance against creating talk pages just so that they're created. I know that I've seen the subject come up before (for adding Wikiproject banners, for example) and it always seems to be consensus that talk pages should not be created until someone actually has something to say.
