Function details:
Creating categories: I will categorize all articles of medicine and biology in Wikipedia using MeSH Tree List of 2017(2017MeSHTree.pdf). This will act as a connection between Wikipedia and MeSH database. In other words, I will copy the MeSH tree (which contains over 55000 categories) to Wikipedia. Some of these categories are already in Wikipedia, the rest will be created using CSV Loader Plugin of AWB. Examples of MeSH categories I'm intending to create: Category:Anatomic Landmarks, Category:Body Regions --Brainist (talk) 19:28, 15 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]- Adding categories: I found that the articles related to neuroscience are so badly categorized so I tried to recategorize them manually, but it was time wasting so I created this bot and I'm trying using it to e.g. move hundreds of articles from the main category to a subcategory. You can have a look at my bot recent contributions regarding moving over 300 articles from Category:G protein coupled receptors to Category:olfactory receptors. I didn't know that bots are not allowed to work before apporval
Adding templates: I want also to revive the Neuroscience WikiProject so I will add the neuroscience portal template at the bottom of all articles within Category:Neuroscience.
The bot will be supervised at the beginning of each order to make sure it is working properly.

- Oh, I was just trying it and it works fine so far. --Brainist (talk) 21:36, 14 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- Yet you continued to run the bot without approval. — JJMC89 (T·C) 22:17, 14 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Needs wider discussion. Per WP:MASSCREATION, please seek a wider venue to propose creation of such categories, such as WP:VPR and relevant projects.
You should also leave notes with relevant projects about other changes too.
You have listed 3 different tasks for this BRFA. Usually, you would want to file them separately or the trial/approval process may take a very long time and be very hard to follow. — HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK 18:01, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- I agree with Hellknowz here. Restrict this BRFA to the first task, and file separate BRFAs for the other ones. Also, this needs widespread discussion as outlined in WP:MASSCREATION. I suggest creating a central discussion at WP:MED or similar (maybe WP:COMPBIO?) and then notifying all projects found on Talk:Medical Subject Headings of that discussion, as well as a notice on the WP:VPR. - Thanks User:Hellknowz and User:Headbomb, I have started a discussion here. --Brainist (talk) 21:45, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to activate the first task for my bot which is adding categories (that are manually created) to articles or moving articles from a category to subcategories. Brainist (talk) 18:49, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- @Brainist: Note, Wikidata may also appreciate your efforts if you're up for adapting your bot for it. -- intgr [talk] 08:48, 5 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

- Denied. The archived discussion can be found at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals)/Archive_139#Recategorizing_all_medicine_and_biology_articles_using_the_more_specific_MeSH_hierarchy. The consensus was strongly against mass creations of categories, and I see no consensus one way or the other about using a bot to move articles into existing subcategories but a good deal of skepticism. I also note the bot operator hasn't been active since May 1, so they don't appear to be returning to this task in the short-term. This is some combination of declined and expired, probably more the former than the latter. Feel free to submit another BRFA in the future if you return to this task. I would expect to see evidence of a consensus for the task in a future BRFA. ~ Rob13Talk 19:46, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
